Principal's Report

National Reconciliation Week

This week we are celebrating National Recognition Week at Preston Primary and across Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2024, Now More than Ever, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, let’s choose to create a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Now More than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.

Next week our Whole School Event Day Keep the Fire Burning - Blak, Loud and Proud, will compliment Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, which is held between July 7-14.  The day is being run by Didgeridoo Australia. The company run Aboriginal Cultural Experiences and Performances. A number of the activities are being held outside so hopefully the weather will be favourable.

Behaviour

Overall, the behaviour of the children at Preston PS is very good however, like all children, there are times when one or two of them might make a wrong choice or decision and we have to deal with these behaviours.

There are different consequences depending on the behaviour. Most incidents are dealt with by the child’s teacher or the yard duty teacher and occasionally Dale Adams or I deal it. We talk with the children and consequences occur dependent on the nature of the incident.

There are a small number of times when we contact parents, if we think the incident requires it. However, most incidents are dealt with within the school.

If your child comes home and tells you about the behaviour of another child, it is not your responsibility to then contact their parent to tell them.

Be mindful that you are only getting your child’s view which often isn’t the complete story. If you do want to clarify anything please contact the child’s teacher, Dale or myself.

Education Week

During Education Week each year level invited parents and extended family members to visit to see the school in action. It was great that so many people were able to come along and visit their child’s classroom. Some of the parents were able to work with their children to complete various activities which was great.

Hot Food Day

Who can resist the smell of a sausage cooking on a BBQ! Our Hot Food Day was a great success with lots of very happy children enjoying their sausage and sauce on a piece of fresh bread.

Thanks to Sara Reid who organised the day and the rosters. Unfortunately, Sara was unwell and was unable to come along on Wednesday to coordinate the day. Huge thanks to Amanda Tollady who stepped in at the last minute to coordinate the event. Thanks also to all of the parents who helped with the various jobs throughout the day. It was show of great teamwork!

Comedy Night - Save the Date

  • Friday July 19th

Our Annual Comedy Night is coming in at the start of Term 3.  Geraldine Hickey and Nath Valvo are lined up, ready to go, and Adam Rozenbachs will be our host for the evening.
