Principal's Message
Term 2, Week 3
Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much to our wonderful P&C and volunteers who brought Democracy Sausages and cakes to the polling booth here at Ironside State School on the weekend, as well as those who volunteered at these stalls, it makes voting so much more fun and supports our school
It was lovely to see old and a new face at our P&C Meeting last week; please try and squeeze them into your calendar. Thank you and farewell to Mr Tony Lowes, the P&C Operations Manager, who announced his resignation at the meeting. We wish Tony all the very best but will no doubt see him here and there at future school events.
Interschool and intraschool sport kicked off last Friday and was wonderful from all accounts. Thank you so much to Mr Nathan Reardon for organising it all; it is such a large job. Thank you to all staff involved in making it all run so smoothly. It will be continuing on for the next 3 weeks.
Congratulations to all of our Year 4-6 Merit Certificate recipients for last week, we are proud of you.
It was so lovely to see a group of dedicated students receive their Life Member Badges for their contribution to the library. The dedication they show is commendable and they are ready to run their own library. Congratulations to these girls!!
Mr Reardon announced the Cross Country medallists on assembly and we got to congratulate them. It is so impressive to run these distances and to place in them is extraordinary - congratulations kids!!
Our young Green Team members let us know that Containers for Change is back on in our school, which is fantastic and there is a new collection bin. We are really wanting our children to contribute to containers for change and not put any extra rubbish into these bins. Well done Green Team!
Once again the Chamber Strings performance on assembly left me in tears and I cannot thank the children involved and Mrs Weekes enough, you are extraordinary. Tonight, they will be competing in the Queensland Youth Music Awards at St Peters and I cannot wait, they will shine! This Friday on assembly, we have the Intermediate Strings performing, feel free to come and enjoy their incredible music.

All the very best to our children trialing in the Touch Football trials this week. All the best also to our children entering the Maths Olympiad this week (APSMO), no doubt you will do well.
I am having two professional development opportunities this week. I am at a Principal’s Conference today and on Thursday, myself and Mrs Griffin will be attending an Explicit Maths conference. We are grateful to Mr Thomas Corbett for being the principal on these days, so that I can engage in this learning.
Following on from this, please read the article below my newsletter that I have included, about ‘How Children Learn To Read;’ I think you will find it very helpful or affirming.
The school photos went very smoothly today I believe. It is important that your child wears the correct uniform every day but is even more paramount on school photo days; as is neat and tidy hair tied back with blue ribbons, no nail polish and appropriate, minimal jewellery. Thank you to Mr Corbett for organising and overseeing school photos. Photos are also happening this Thursday too.
This Sunday coming is Mother’s Day and I hope you are planning to spoil your Mum. Our fabulous P&C and volunteers are helping to make it even more special this Friday with their Mother’s Day Stall. There is no pressure to buy anything but it is a great service being provided for those who do and we thank everyone involved for making this happen.
Have a wonderful week and Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday to all Mums.
Yours in Education,
Angie Kelly
Principal
PS The Brisbane City Council has selected Ironside State School to be part of their safer schools program. Please always follow the road rules and parking rules to keep our children safe. Getting a fine is one thing but the consequences of causing an accident that hurts people is another.
