SLR 1 Unit

Kayak Excursion

On Friday, March 7ᵗʰ, our adventurous Year 11 SLR 1 unit students traded the classroom for the open water, embarking on an unforgettable 24km kayaking expedition down the beautiful Murrumbidgee River.

Setting off from Oura Beach, the students paddled their way towards Eunony Bridge, navigating the river's currents and learning valuable skills along the way. This wasn't just a physical challenge; it was an educational journey into the heart of our local environment.

Under the expert guidance of Mick from Motion In Fitness Kayak Tours, students gained practical knowledge about reading water conditions, identifying potential hazards, and appreciating the diverse wildlife that calls the Murrumbidgee home. They learned to interpret the river's subtle cues, from the ripples on the surface to the presence of native birds and other creatures.

The four-hour kayaking adventure tested their endurance and teamwork, but our students rose to the occasion with enthusiasm and resilience. The river provided a stunning backdrop for their learning experience, fostering a deep connection with nature and a sense of accomplishment.

The students' excellent behaviour and positive attitudes were a credit to themselves and the school.

A huge thank you goes to Mick from Motion In Fitness Kayak Tours for providing expert instruction and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Geoff McNamara for his meticulous planning and organisation, making this remarkable trip possible.

This kayaking expedition provided our Year 11 SLR 1 students with a unique and enriching learning experience, demonstrating the power of hands-on, outdoor education. We look forward to more exciting adventures in the future!
