Music

A fun start to Music in 2025
Classroom Music
We have been meeting once a week in the F-4 students’ classroom this term and Erica has been spotted around the main building with tubs of water, buckets of recorders and a trolly full of ring shakers.
F/1
Students have been singing, moving and playing. They have been finding and using their singing voices and the grade 1s have been demonstrating how to sit with an instrument without playing it (a very difficult skill which the grade 1s have mastered already!).
Ask your child to sing you some songs such as:
On My Toe There Is A Flea
I Like The Flowers
The H.I.P.P.O Hippopotamus
Shake Like A Milkshake
2-4
We have started learning the Recorder! Students have been outside exploring the instrument, finding what the recorder can and can’t do, sharing their findings and playing echo rhythms. They have learned the breath they need to make a tuneful sound on the recorder. I am super impressed with all the students’ efforts!!!
Ask your child to demonstrate a warm and cold breath on their hand and ask them which one we use for playing the recorder. Ask them which hand goes at the top of the recorder.
Next we will be learning about covering the holes to make notes and working towards our recorder karate belts!
A reminder that the school provides each student with a recorder to play in their weekly music lesson and that these are disinfected after each lesson. Students who bring their own can use those in the lesson. Check back in your emails to find more information about this.
TPS Ensembles (music groups)
Choir: Choir is meeting once a week on Monday lunchtime and we are learning about singing together while singing a special song called Kiss The Sky. Choir is for grades 1-6 and we are still welcoming new members if your child is interested.
Band: We are so lucky to have our TPS parent Kirsty Letts volunteering to coach the Grade 6 band this year! They have started rehearsing on Fridays before school and we can look forward to seeing them perform soon! If you would like to volunteer to coach a year 5 band, please get in touch with Erica: Erica.Pringle@education.vic.gov.au
Orchestra: String Orchestras have begun again this year, led by our new Violin teacher Yona Su. Orchestra is every Monday so please remember to bring your instrument.
Instrumental lessons
T.I.M.E is the team of independent instrumental teachers at TPS. We are lucky to have wonderful instrumental teachers who offer piano, ukulele, guitar, drums, singing, strings (violin, viola, cello), woodwind (clarinet, saxophone and flute), brass (trumpet and trombone).
Students come out of their regular class for these lessons and perform at a TIME event as well as the Arts Festival.
If you would like to find out more about the instrumental program please read the information in this form https://forms.gle/VMT5RLSTfncGYMAU7 or contact: Justin justin.fermino@gmail.com.
