CRAFT

A big welcome to all our families, especially to our new Prep community. For families that don’t know me, my name is Antoinette Vaiano.  I feel so privileged to be teaching art atTPS for as long as I have, and that I am still enjoying it so much! I teach mainstream art and Steiner craft.

We started the term by revisiting what our Growth Mindset looks like in the art room. We discussed the different mantras that students can use to support their learning. We also started work on our collaborative artworks, where students were asked to work in groups of three or more to create an artwork that was inspired by the Surrealist game called “Exquisite Corpse”. Students folded paper into three or four folds and then each student drew on a section without looking at the previous drawing. Once completed the owner artist opened their paper to reveal the strange and unusual art image. The kids loved this collaborative art game! I have included images showing students working collaboratively on their designs.

This term the craft focus will be felting with each class creating a different felted object using both wet and dry felting techniques.

Nemo’s class has made wet felted rocks and students are now trying their hands on needle felting around a shape. So much fun! Class two students are working on needle felting pool noodle creatures. Chelsea’s 3/4 class are creating felted bowls and class five are needle felting deep water fish! The kids are having a lot of fun using their imagination and perseverance to complete these projects.

To support student learning, parents are invited to help out in the art room.  You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
