Buddy Tree

Kristen Cutting, Student Wellbeing Leader

You may have noticed that we have a beautiful and vibrant addition to our school yard…

Our Buddy Tree has been crochet bombed! It is full of happiness, colour, texture and creativity and already is bringing so much joy to our school community.

First of all, Anthony, our garden/handyman guru knocked up the actual benches last year, which fit within our garden landscape beautifully!

As for the crochet, a huge thank you to our wonderful and imaginative Port Melbourne community members, Derinda, Raeleen, Rachael, Sarah, Judy, Sandy, Holly who volunteered countless hours and skills organising, designing and creating the individual pieces of crochet. I’m pretty sure we even had some anonymous contributions as well delivered to our school. This work occurred over several months at the end of last year.

Then the project was handed over to our extremely hardworking and innovative team, led by Sondhya and Anthony who asked to take over this while I was still trying to figure out the logistics of how I was going to get everything attached! They were greatly assisted by Tina and Jane AND last but not least the amazing kids, Sebastian, Niamh, Abigail and Archer who also invested many, many hours putting the pieces together and then attaching them to the trees.

A final thanks to Miss Emily in Art who has also been working with some students behind the scenes on a very cool sign for our Buddy Bench and some other amazing things to hang on the branches. So, keep an eye out for the new additions!
