Learning and Teaching

Dear Parents and Carers,
Classroom Snapshot - Daily Review
There is so much learning happening in our classrooms! Over the past two years, St Peter’s has introduced an explicit instruction approach, particularly in literacy and mathematics. A key part of this approach is called ‘daily review.’ This method helps students revisit what they’ve learned using techniques like spaced repetition, mixing topics, and regular practice to strengthen their memory.
The Forgetting Curve shows how we tend to forget information over time unless we keep reviewing it. By using daily reviews, we help students retain what they’ve learned and build stronger understanding. Below is an example of all the slides from a Year 1 mathematics daily review in one image:
Beginning of Year Assessments
All beginning-of-year assessments have now been completed. This information gives the classroom teacher a clear understanding of where your child is and their next learning steps.
Every child is unique, and students in a classroom often progress at different rates. Our teachers adjust lessons to meet the needs of each student, providing both support and challenge. Teachers are now analysing this data with curriculum leaders to ensure every child’s learning journey is fully supported.
NAPLAN 2025
Well done to our Year 3 and 5 students for participating in NAPLAN this year. We were impressed by their effort and engagement! They are so much more than a single assessment; we’re proud of them. Results will be released around the beginning of Term 3.
Vision for Instruction
I invite you to read more about our vision for instruction, particularly in mathematics, on the next page. You’ll also find some photos showcasing this vision in action in the area of mathematics. Our Curriculum Leader in Mathematics, Danielle Moran, wrote this article.
Have a fantastic week ahead.
