Dear Parents, Staff, and EPS Community,
A warm welcome to this edition of our school newsletter!
This month, we’re celebrating our students’ achievements in literacy, mathematics, and physical education, as well as highlighting the importance of our buddy program. We’ll also take a look at some special events coming up and hear from our Student Representative Council about their latest initiatives. Please read below for further information.

In Literacy, we have been sitting outside and reading Tom Appleby. At the moment, we are on Chapter 35, and it is very interesting. Tom has made a chimney with a character called Rob. Rob is a very nice person and is kind to Tom, even though Tom is a convict and Rob is the sergeant’s son. Other convicts tried to steal their food.
The Grade 5s have been doing NAPLAN for the past two weeks, while the Grade 6s have been working on biographies.

In 5/6 Numeracy, we have been learning about prime numbers, composite numbers, and triangular numbers in the early weeks of school. Now, in Week 8, we are focusing on BODMAS (Brackets, Order, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction). We are working on understanding how to answer equations in a specific order. We have also been practicing our fluency skills through fun and engaging class Kahoot—a quiz on our iPads—to reinforce our learning and reflect on our lessons.

In Buddies this week, the Grade 5s helped their prep buddy create a headband for their first prep assembly. The preps chose an animal and coloured in their selection. Then, the Grade 5s helped them stick their animal onto their favourite coloured paper. After finishing their headbands, they went outside and played in the playground.
Last week, we drew pictures of each other, then printed a photo of us with our prep buddy. After that, we glued the photos onto coloured paper and read a book to our buddy.

In PE, the 5/6s recently attended Gala Day, a school sports event where students competed in cricket, volleyball, softball, and tennis against other schools. The tournaments took place on Friday, March 1st, and Friday, March 7th.
While the sports teams were at Gala Day, students who were not selected got to go swimming and bowling! This week, we started a unit on softball, where we practiced fielding, throwing, and batting—skills that are useful not only in softball but in any bat-and-ball game.

Coming up in just a few days, we have Ride to School Day on March 21st! Students will be able to ride on the oval before school and again at lunchtime.
