The Preps
The students have been practising making observations and asking questions. Making observations and asking questions are both very important skills that help us understand phenomena all by ourselves. We have been thinking out loud and saying what our brains are thinking by using our voice. We have been communicating and finding that others were joining in asking questions too. We focused on; I notice, I think, and I wonder. When we came to the 'I wonder' prompt, we started to ask questions based on what, when, why, where, who and how. We came up with our own questions and compared; honeybee or paperwasp? Earwig or scorpion? Rabbit or Hare? Crocodile or alligator?
The leaves are falling to the ground around the playground we asked many questions about the leaves. We also used our pocket microscope to look closely at a variety of objects.
Grades 1 & 2
Earth is one of 8 planets in our solar system; observing the sky reveals patterns in the changing positions of the Sun, Moon, planets and stars. Students have been identifying patterns in the changing shape of the Moon at different times during the month. We are also investigating the the appearance of a full moon, and ‘blue’, ‘blood’ and ‘super’ moons. Students are creating and ordering the 8 phases of the Moon cycle.
Grades 3 & 4
We have moved onto the Earth's resources and are investigating rocks, minerals and soil. We are looking at their properties and how they can be used in different ways. Students are identifying that rocks are key components of natural and build environments. Below are some photographs from last week of our finished bird nests with eggs, which belong to various backyard birds.
Grades 5 & 6
The students have been looking at States of Matter (solids, liquids and gases) looking at the arrangement and motion of particles in solids, liquids and gases. We have been completing a range of experiments to explore changes in state of matter to consolidate their learning and ideas about what exists between particles.
