From the Year 3 Classroom

Who can believe that your child has almost completed their first term in Grade 3? It has been a busy first term with Swimming lessons, Swimming Carnival, Pancake Tuesday, Opening School Mass, Photo Day, NAPLAN, First Aid training, Learning Conversations and of course lots of new learning in between all that fun.

We have finished reading ‘Matilda’! Students felt a great sense of achievement finishing the chapter book and enjoyed many parts to the story. As a treat we are planning to watch the movie next week. The movie is rated PG, if you do not want your child to view the movie, please contact their classroom teacher.

In our Literacy block we have started our new novel study ‘Off we go Around Australia’ by Roland Harvey. Students are enjoying reading and responding to the text. In Writing, students are planning an explanation text.

In Mathematics, we are building on previous learning of doubling and skip counting and focusing on multiplication and division equations for our 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s. Next term we will be introducing ‘Timetables Masters’ to encourage students to continue to practise them. More information next term to come.

We finish off our Inquiry unit this term learning about positive sleeping behaviours and being ‘digitally’ safe on the internet. Keep an eye out week 10 for students bringing home an assessment task they will complete, celebrating what they have learnt about personal health this term in our unit- Magnificent, Marvellous Me!

In Religious Education we have been focusing on Easter and in particular the events leading up to Holy Week.

We wish you and your family a safe and happy three-week break.

Look forward to seeing you all in Term 2!
