Parent Information and Wellbeing Day

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting parent information sessions for each cohort, and we want to extend a big thank you to the families who were able to attend! For those who couldn’t make it or would like to refer back to the content in the future, we would like to share the presentation slides with you.

We also wanted to share some of the questions that came up during the sessions—We hope this helps keep everyone in the loop!

Q - What exactly is Facts on Fire, and how can we support at home?

A - Facts on Fire is a maths intervention program designed to help students improve their fluency with basic maths facts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The program focuses on building maths fact fluency step-by-step, starting with the basics and moving to more complex operations as students master each level. At school each day, students work through timed maths problems to help improve their speed and accuracy in recalling maths facts. At the end of each week, students are encouraged to take home any spare practice sheets from the week, to continue working on. If you are keen to continue practicing at home, reach out to your child's teachers to recieve some additional print outs.

Q - Will any of the Writing/Maths clubs be available after school in the future?

A - Thank you for your interest in our additional learning programs! Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to offer these clubs after school. This is primarily due to staff resourcing, scheduling conflicts, and the need to ensure both teachers and students have time to rest.

Q - Often I put it in absence request in the night before but still get an unexplained absence notification. Is there a reason why there’s such a delay?

A - This is due to the manual process we follow on our end. Absence requests need to be reviewed, approved, and processed at the start of each day. While we work hard to ensure everything is up-to-date first thing in the morning, occasional office interruptions can sometimes cause delays, resulting in notifications being sent before the request is processed. We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep things running smoothly!

Following the Parent Information Session, we were excited to host our Wellbeing Celebration Afternoon, where parents had the opportunity to explore the NPS Wellbeing Handbook in a hands-on way. The afternoon saw families moving through classrooms, engaging with teachers at their stations, and gaining insights into the various levels of support we offer at NPS.

Throughout the event, we highlighted our Tier 1 universal supports, which are available to all students across the school, as well as the more targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports designed to meet individual needs. Parents also had the chance to learn more about the principles and practices that guide our approach to student wellbeing, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive.

It was a fantastic opportunity to deepen our school community's understanding of the wellbeing frameworks in place and to celebrate the collective efforts in supporting our students’ emotional and social growth. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the event such a success!

If you missed out of your own copy of our NPS handbook, a postcard of the behaviour roadmap or even a NPS sticker for your yeti, please pass by the office!
