Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

It has been a busy and exciting start to the year for Careers and Pathways at Peter Lalor Secondary College! Our students across Years 10, 11, and 12 have been engaging with their Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements as part of the VCE-VM program. This valuable hands-on experience helps students develop real-world skills, build confidence in the workplace, and explore potential career pathways. Thank you to all the families and employers supporting our students on their SWL journey!

If you’re still looking for an SWL opportunity, check out the statewide portal here. There are a wide variety of opportunities available across many industries. Please contact the Careers & Pathways Team if you need support.

Year Level Careers & Pathways Google Classrooms

Our Careers and Pathways Google Classrooms for Years 10, 11, and 12 are now live. These are key platforms where we share updates, work placement opportunities, career exploration resources, and information about upcoming events. Students and families are encouraged to check in regularly to stay informed and connected. Students can access these digital classrooms using their school email logins.

Head Start: School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships (SBATs)We’re continuing to support students involved in the Head Start program, which combines school with part-time work and vocational training. School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) are a fantastic option for students who want to get a head start in their chosen industry while working towards their VCE-VM certificate. We’re proud of the dedication and commitment these students are showing toward their futures.

If you're interested in undertaking an SBAT, please see the Careers & Pathways Team to explore how we can connect you with the Head Start team and secure an opportunity.

Year 12 Pathway PlanningOur Year 12 students have begun one-on-one Pathway Planning Conversations, where we explore each student’s post-school goals and discuss options including employment, apprenticeships, TAFE, and university. In 2025, we are documenting these plans on personalised Pathway Maps through the Careers & Pathways Google Classroom. These conversations are a vital part of ensuring every student is supported to make a confident and successful transition beyond school.

Year 12 students are encouraged to complete the Year 12 Pathways Survey via the Year 12 Careers & Pathways Google Classroom, or by clicking the link in their Compass Home Group post.
