Year 10 Report
The year 10 cohort has had a busy start to 2025 to commence their VCE Vocational Major journey. Students in this year level have shown tremendous success with attendance and have embraced the 4 subject areas being Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills and Work Related Skills. Students have had an array of opportunities available to them including attending the Victorian Careers Expo to explore career aspirations and pathways, a meet and greet session at Whittlesea Technical School (WTS) at Melbourne Polytechnic and the Outdoor Adventure Day excursion where students have the opportunity to try abseiling.
Next term will also see students attending Preston Market as additional visits to Whittlesea Technical School.
This term, some students have been successful in securing their Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placement and have commenced this on their allocated day. If your child is yet to obtain a WTS, please note they have been provided with a SWL Support Booklet to assist them with finding a suitable placement. It is imperative that all students engage in this program as it is incorporated into their 5 day educational program, and assists them with content covered in subject areas such as Work Related Skills as well as exposure to their VET industry in a practical manner.
Any students who feel they require additional time to complete work tasks, or are finding themselves behind in task submissions are encouraged to attend the after school catch up sessions which are scheduled fortnightly on Tuesdays and weekly on Thursdays from 3:15pm - 4pm.
We look forward to another productive term and hope students return feeling refreshed and ready to embrace greater learning opportunities.
Year 11 Report
The year 11’s had a successful start to their senior studies in 2025.
They have been able to work diligently to complete their studies throughout the term and ensure Peter Lalor Secondary College has been a safe and happy environment for every individual.
Students have been able to participate with enthusiasm in various PDS tasks, whilst working hard to keep up with the high demands in Literacy, Numeracy and WRS.
The students attended the Careers Expo at the Melbourne showgrounds, where they had the opportunity to explore different career paths and liaise with different industries.
Students have been able to work together to further develop their social skills and work together as a cohort to support each other during term 1.
I am proud of their efforts thus far and wish them a successful year going forward.
Year 12 Report
The Year 12 cohort have made a very pleasing start to the year and are now into a consistent routine with their programs. The year started with the Year 12 students staying at the Doxa Camp in Malmsbury for two nights, which involved the students engaging in a range of group activities. These included high ropes courses, such as the ‘leap of faith’, ‘giant ladder’ and ‘crate stack’. It was great to see many students displaying courage, confidence and teamwork when completing these challenges.
The attendance of the vast majority of Year 12 students during Term One has been excellent. It is important for students to attend school regularly, including VET studies and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL). Consistency of attendance builds positive patterns, self-discipline and enables students to get ready for the requirements of the workplace.
We also conducted an excursion to the Formula One Grand Prix, on Thursday the 13th of March. Thank you to Vici Petrovski for all her work in organising this activity. The students travelled to and from the event on public transport, enjoyed a day at this major sporting event, and also completed preparations for a Personal Development Skills (PDS) project.
As we near the end of Term One, I would like to encourage all students to maintain their consistency of effort and application. Students are to be commended for their commitment to the many varied programs in which they are engaged in. These include: VCE Vocational Major, VET studies, SWL and School Based Apprenticeships (SBAT’s). I wish all students and staff and well-earned break and look forward to a positive Term Two.
