What is the nicest thing someone has ever said to you?
Saying nice words to each other encourages us and can build us up to stand strong.
I used to run a lot when I trained to be an AFL umpire, and I didn’t like running very much. However, when my family and friends cheered me on, and maybe even ran a bit of the way with me, it was amazing how well I could run.
On a very windy day during a long training run, a friend who was a much better runner than me, helped me run home into the wind. Thankfully he realised that I was going to struggle to run into the wind and allowed me to stay right behind him to draft along so that I could get home. His encouragement and kindness meant a lot to me. I also encouraged and thanked him for his running.
Encouraging words and actions can build each of us up and give us confidence to stand strong together.
God gives us family and friends to encourage us and uses us to encourage others. This could be from your immediate family and friends, your school family and friends, and even your church family and friends. Encouraging each other is a gift from God to share with each other. When we encourage each other, we build each other up as God says in 1 Thessalonians 5:11;
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
How could we encourage each other?
- Say something nice.
- Doing something kind.
- Be there for each other even when life is tough.
- Listen to each other.
- Pray for each other.
- Check in with each other.
- Share positive stories of encouragement with each other.
God is also your family, and better than your best friend. God has many great encouraging words to tell you and the best words and actions he has to share is that he always loves you! God loves that you are here, and he loves loving you. So much so that he gave us his only son, Jesus Christ, to love us and be with us always. And that could be the best encouragement we could all share with each other.
Thanks and God bless,
Pastor Richard Fox
