What's Been Happening in Year 2
Last week, our Year 2 students had an exciting time participating in Swimming Week at Splash! They learned essential water safety skills while building their confidence in the water through a range of fun activities and games.
Throughout the week, students practised key water safety techniques, including how to float and safely enter and exit the water. They also took on the challenge of putting their heads under the water, which was a big step for many! Some swam on their backs, improving their control in the water. Students practised jumping safely into deeper water, using the “pindropping” technique, helping them gain more confidence and trust in their swimming abilities.
A highlight of the week was Friday’s ‘Water Safety Day’, where students got to wear their pyjamas in the water to practise how to tread water in case they were to find themselves in an emergency situation wearing clothes in water. They also went to different water safety stations to learn about keeping safe around water at home, the beach and the river.
It was wonderful to see our Year 2 swimmers grow in confidence and enthusiasm, with many showing great improvement by the end of the week. We are so proud of their efforts!
What's Been Happening in Year 4
Laws and Democracy Incursion - Newsletter Post
On Thursday the 13th of March, the Year 4 students participated in a Democracy, Community and Me Incursion. Students explored the fundamentals of democracy and government in Australia. They examined the difference between rules and laws and how they are made to benefit the community.
Students did a stand for mock-election to the local government while learning about preferential voting and absolute majorities. They participated in a local government council meeting role play, with costumes and props, to illustrate how local rules and laws are made for the community.
The students had lots of fun during this incursion and had the opportunity to imagine life being a counselor and a member of the government. They got the chance to explore the reasons for rules and laws and why there are different consequences.
In other news.... some very happy Tigerland staff supporters!! What a start to the football year!! Sorry Carlton fans.
