Art with Nicole & Emily

In art this term 3/4 have been learning about the French artist Henri Matisse. Matisse was sometimes referred to as 'The King of Colour' as he recognised that colour played a big part in how we perceive life. Learning about Matisse and his art has helped us to think more about the different relationships colours have and how it is the combination of colours beside one another that affects the viewing experience.
Students have had lots of practise ‘drawing with scissors’- a common technique in Matisse’s collage work, and the results have been beautiful. They have learnt about organic and geometric shapes and have had a great time creating freely as they cut, layer and glue different coloured papers to create collages.
Here is a photo of the ever-growing Matisse-style wall mural and the 3/4 students at work, creating collage artworks with hand-made textured paper.
