Year One/Two News

Last week, the Year 1/2 students began learning about data. We learnt that data is collecting information. Students have learnt about how to ask a good question in order to get good information. For example, students have been answering yes or no questions such as 'Do you like pizza?' and then expanding that to include choices such as 'What pizza do you like?', where students have a choice of four pizzas to choose from.
So what do you do with the data once you have it? Students have been learning how to record the data by using tally marks in a table and then using the tally marks to make a picture graph or a bar graph. The next step is for students to identify what they notice about the data, such as what item might be most or least popular or how many of something there is.
Students have also been very busy choosing work they are proud of to go into their Learning Portfolios. We can't wait to share all of the students' amazing work with families at Student-Led Conferences next week.
We are also reminding families to send along a shoebox or similar-sized box to school with students so that they can make a habitat for a minibeast during Humanities lessons over the last two weeks of term.
