In the classroom

Foundation / Grade 1

This fortnight the Foundation/Grade 1 class have been working on building their reading skills. The Grade ones have worked on what is a super sentence. They know it needs a capital letter, full stop, makes sense and is about something.

The excitement in the Foundation group was big this week when they began to learn their sounds. Maggie the Mouse loves muffins.

This fortnight the Foundation/1s had their first Mass in the church with Father Jophin. Lots of questions and discussions occurred after.

Grade 1/2

We have been learning about finding higher and lower numbers and using MAB blocks to explain our thinking. We have also made numbers with MAB and talked about how many hundreds, tens and ones are in a number. This week we have looked at hundreds charts and filled in missing numbers and continued patterns using the hundreds chart.

Grade 3/4/5

Our Grade 3 and 4 students have been preparing for their camp at the end of the week to Murray Life Adventures, Torumbarry.  The students have been looking forward to the exciting experiences and memories they will create at camp. And from all accounts, the first day/night was 'awesome!'.

The Grade 3 and 5 students have been preparing for NAPLAN testing which commenced this week and will continue next week.

Grade 6

Our Year Six students have been learning about World War One and World War Two as part of our Inquiry unit. We were lucky enough to organise a 'Digital Incursion' with the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. We did this on Zoom alongside the Year 4/5 class. During the incursion, we got to take a digital tour through the museum to see war artifacts and weapons. We were told stories of Australians who supported in war efforts. One story was of Minnie Rattigan who helped feed and entertain soldiers on leave in London during the First World War through the ANZAC Buffet. Another story was about Len Waters who was the only Aboriginal Australian to serve as a fighter pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War Two. Students then chose to research one of these important Australians and create a presentation detailing how they supported in the war effort.
