Principal's Message

Hello Rollins families,
I hope you’ve all had a chance to get some Vitamin D this week. What great weather for the start of Term 2.
Our students are right back into it. We’ve had a great week of learning and reconnecting after the holiday break. It was great to hear about what our kids had been up to over the holidays; a few trips to the Murray, bikes rides, caravan parks and more.
Many conversations I’ve had with students recently has been focused on ‘what you’re good at’ or ’you can do’; no matter what it is or how big or small. Even us adults are wired to think about the bad things happening in our lives vs the good things, or remembering the negative event that happened for a minute vs the great day. It’s hard to snap out of this way of thinking, and as teachers its our job to try and guide the students to remember all the good things they can do or that is happening in their lives. This way of thinking is very relatable to the Resilience Project work - which students were reminded of when they went to see Martin last week. This clip was at the centre of the presentation, reminding us to be grateful for the little things in our lives.
The highlight of those presentations was when Martin talked about going to a good friend and giving them a hug, then watching the kids all embrace each other. They were all smiling, laughing, and having fun. It was amazing, and all the kids found someone.
PRINCIPAL UPDATE:
Temporarily, I will be taking over from Jen as she dives head first into retirement. As a staff it has been wonderful seeing Jen become content with moving into the next phase of her life. The regional office, with the input of our school council, will be looking to appoint a new principal shortly (expected this term).
INDIE our SUPERDOG!
I just wanted to give a shoutout to one of our most cherished employees at Rollins - Indie our therapy dog. She is wonderful, and a real credit to 'dad' - Lachie Sperling. She has an incredible way of making staff, students and parents smile, and has the perfect temperament for a school.
Wishing you all a good couple of weeks.
Daniel
