Relieving Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers, Students, and Staff,

I am pleased to let you know that I will be continuing in my role as Relieving Principal until Friday, 5th June. I am committed to maintaining a supportive and productive environment for our students, staff, and school community throughout this term. Thank you for your ongoing support, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you and ensuring our school continues to thrive. 

Welcome back to a busy Term 2 

Welcome back to school for Term 2! I hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for an exciting and busy term ahead. We have a range of activities, learning opportunities, and events planned to engage and support our students.  

With special events such as our P & C Mother’s Day Stall, the Year 6 excursion to Canberra and the Kindy excursion to Sydney Zoo, it’s shaping up to be a vibrant and engaging term for our whole school.

Term 2 Staff Development Days 

Last week, during the Term 2 Staff Development Days, our staff engaged in 5 hours of valuable professional learning focused on disability, neurodiversity, and inclusive education. 

This training builds on the excellent work already taking place in our school and provides practical, evidence-based strategies to support all students in accessing the curriculum and achieving their learning outcomes.  

The professional learning acknowledges the complexity of teaching and highlights that inclusive strategies are important for all students and essential for some. We are committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. 

We would like to sincerely thank the staff who facilitated the recent professional learning sessions. The depth of knowledge and expertise at Carlingford West was evident as the sessions were delivered with great understanding and empathy. Their dedication and skill greatly contributed to a meaningful and enriching learning experience for all participants. We are fortunate to have such passionate and knowledgeable educators supporting our school community. 

Year 1 Number Screening Check 

What is the Year 1 Number Screening Check?  

The Year 1 Number Screening Check is a short statewide assessment that tells teachers how your child is progressing in early number sense. This screening check observes how your child can recognise numbers, order numbers, count, compare, and add and subtract.  

Your child will sit with a teacher and will be asked to answer approximately 30 questions. The check normally takes 10 to 15 minutes.  

The Year 1 Number Screening Check is carefully designed not to be stressful for your child. If your child is struggling the teacher will stop the check.  

The main purpose of the Year 1 Number Screening Check is to provide your child’s teacher with information which will allow them to plan for your child’s learning. 

All Year 1 children will be individually assessed by a teacher from week 4 of this term.

Update – Felton Road West turning circle and staff car park 

The Felton Rd West turning circle is not yet ready for operation, but we hope it will be available for use soon. In the meantime, it is vitally important that NO students or parents/carers walk through the car park at any time to ensure everyone’s safety. 

ALL students and parents/carers must move along the wide pedestrian path only.  

Staff have already observed students and families walking through the car park, which is extremely unsafe and concerning. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to complete this area and keep our community safe. 

Update – School Oval

We are pleased to share that work on the school oval has now been completed and it is looking fabulous.  

However, students will not be able to use the space this term, as the grass needs time to establish and become robust enough to withstand regular use. Allowing the field to rest will help ensure it remains in great condition for our school community to enjoy for years to come.  

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we give the new grass time to take hold. 

Kindergarten 2027 Enrolments

Enrolments for Kindergarten 2027 are being accepted for children who live in our school catchment area.  

Children born between 1st August 2021 and 31st July 2022 are eligible to enrol. 

Parents wishing to enrol their child for Kindergarten 2027 should email our school office at carlingfow-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and attention the email to Mrs Adams, our Enrolment Officer.  

Please provide your child’s name, date of birth and your residential address.

Mrs Adams will respond and advise you on what documents you are required to provide and arrange a suitable time for you to collect the enrolment package.   Thank you.

Respecting Our Neighbours in School and at Home

We kindly remind all students to be respectful of neighbours both when travelling to and from school and in their own local communities. This means keeping noise levels down, disposing of litter responsibly, and being considerate of others' property and privacy.

Showing kindness and respect helps build positive relationships and a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
