Vinnies Sleep Out
The Vinnies Winter Appeal Sleepout is an oppurtunity to raise student awareness of the plight of the homeless, those living in poverty and those struggling to survive on the margins of our society. OCC staff and students have been supporting this cause for many years, this year the event was held last Friday 20th September. Below are some photos and recounts from some of the students who attended the event!
The OCC sleepout Was an awesome experience for All students who participated. we had fun activities watched movies And had Exquisite cheese toasties for breakfast. A group of kids stayed in their sleeping bags and they looked like worms in their sleeping bags. One kid even went in a onesie. - Eli Vannucci
At the sleep out there were many fun things and activities to do like going to the chapel and wrapping cotton string around cardboard letters and put all of the letters together that said we can make a difference. We also got to watch a movie and chat with our friends. We also got to play a group game where everyone had a number but some people had names from the bible and we also got to have chips on buns and cheese and ham toasties. And that is what we did at the sleep out. - Chace Allingham
The sleepout was a great experience. It was great to see so many people there. We participated in a trivia round, and a range of games including Mathew mark Luke and John which involves trying to get up to Matthews seat. We also participated in a reflection which required us to wind wool around a cardboard letter or number which resulted in creating a phrase saying 2024 we can make a difference. We ended the night with a movie before getting to bed around 11. We woke up to ham and cheese toasties with a rather fresh weather. Overall it was a great experience for all involved and showed the experience homeless people live with every day. - Josie Ryan
