During week 9 of this term, a number of staff were fortunate to participate in some professional learning days with staff from across the Diocese with Dr Lyn Sharratt. These days provided leaders and teachers an opportunity to examine research, discover and reflect on intentional teaching and learning actions that will increase all students' achievements. The goal was for us to leave the workshops with 'up-shifted' thinking about the value and power of 'Putting FACES on the Data', and practical approaches to using data to inform instruction.
The impact that this work has on our College is that it promotes a more focused and cohesive approach to educational improvement. With a focus on data-driven instruction, collaborative professional learning, system-wide alignment, focus on leadership and capacity building, enhanced accountability and improved student achievement, Sharratt’s work provides a structured, evidence-based approach to educational leadership and teaching that enhances clarity, coherence, and accountability, leading to better learning environments and improved outcomes for students in the school systems that adopt her framework.
As we continue to implement these strategies at O'Connor Catholic College, we are confident that the focus on Clarity in teaching and learning will empower both educators and students to reach their full potential. By embracing these evidence-based practices, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, where every student’s progress is visible, valued, and supported.
