As we gather to celebrate the final Mass and graduation of the Class of 2024, we reflect on the incredible journey this year group has shared. From the very beginning, it has been clear that these students have fostered a unique bond, creating a community where everyone feels they truly belong. This sense of connection has not only enriched their experiences but has also nurtured a vibrant atmosphere throughout our college.
Throughout their time here, the Class of 2024 has exemplified what it means to look after one another. They have shown remarkable compassion and empathy, standing by their peers through challenges and celebrating each other's successes. This unwavering support encourages all students to grow, reminding us of the importance of nurturing relationships that last a lifetime.
As they prepare to embark on new adventures, it is evident that the Class of 2024 will leave a significant mark on our college. Their spirit, creativity, and dedication inspire us to believe in our potential and achieve great things. We will carry their legacy forward, cherishing the memories and the profound impact they have made during their time with us.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We look forward to seeing the amazing contributions you will make in the future, and we are proud to have been a part of your journey. Thank you for the joy and inspiration you have brought to our college.
I have asked the Captains if I could share their speech from our Graduation Assembly.
I have taken the liberty to include just snippets of the pearls of wisdom they shared with us today.
Indiana Ramage:
Belief is a huge part of O’Connor, but most of all, a big part of a person who is able to achieve great things. Belief in themselves, in their ability, belief from mentors, teachers, parents, friends and an innate belief that all things happen for a reason, are integral parts of successful people. I wouldn’t describe myself as confident or overly charismatic or particularly brave, but through belief from others and myself I have been able to represent this year and speak proudly in front of you all, something I’m sure year 7 Indi wouldn’t have been able to do. I’m so proud of not only the person that I’ve become but the people I see in front of me.These people are extraordinarily talented, compassionate, intelligent and most of all kind. Truly, school can be hard and it can suck. It can be scary at times and even horrible. Sometimes it feels like nothing ever goes your way, but… under all the stress, drama, bitterness there is a beating heart, a big family. And a heart can’t beat without your lungs, veins and a healthy working body, the only way to survive something as ‘traumatic’ as our senior year is by the support of everything around us.
Alexis Cook:
Our year was able to achieve this because everyone contributed their unique strengths, worked together with dedication and supported each other through challenges. Each individual brought something special to the table, whether it was through leadership that created the strongest house spirit in years, creativity which has been displayed by the musical performances and our problem solving or perseverance which is shown each and every day. We embraced teamwork, encouraged one another and fostered an environment where everyone could thrive. It wasn’t always easy, but by staying focused on our shared goals and lifting each other up when things got tough, we achieved success together. This collective effort is what sets our year apart and makes our accomplishments so meaningful.
John Harris:
I want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who have nurtured us throughout this journey: our parents, teachers, and every single person in this gym. Each of you have played a vital role in shaping who we are. O’Connor’s sense of connectedness and pride is one that I don't think I will ever forget and over the past 6 years has helped me to achieve things I never would have thought possible.
Georgina Schultz:
Grow
Now what?
At the end of our career as high school students we have an opportunity. Now is our time to take on the world and to find, and pursue, our passions. Amongst us sit future artists, athletes, nurses and doctors, lawyers, tradies and more. As everyone begins to go their separate ways, some may stay close to home while others create a home far away. Some will stay in touch and others may never hear from you again. It’s a big leap that we are preparing to take, and change can be scary, but I know we’re going to be fine. It’s ok to be scared - we just have to do it anyway. So if any of my fellow graduates are nervous about the future, know that you’re not alone.
I can say with total confidence, the cohort of 2024 will go on and make their mark on the world. They will contribute to their community with confidence and they will never forgot their time here.
Go and write the next chapter, make sure you write in large bold letters. Make sure you stop and listen, never be afraid to rewrite a sentence or two, or even press pause if you have to. This is your story.
With my heart filled with pride, I wish you all the very best!
With regards,
