Year 7 Graffiti Art

In our recent Art class, students explored the world of street art by diving into the iconic works of Banksy. Inspired by his unique style and bold use of messaging, the students delved into typography, learning how different fonts and styles can evoke emotion and make statements.

As a hands-on project, each student designed their own name in a graffiti style, showcasing creativity, individuality, and an understanding of the artistic elements that define this powerful form of expression. The results were bold, vibrant, and a true testament to the spirit of contemporary art!

Year 9/10 Visual Art

Term 3 for Visual Art's Year 9/10 students meant exploring colour and paint. Students began with colour investigations with a partner and  painted as many different hues of green, orange and purple without touching the purple, orange and green paint bottles.  Some of the results are shown below.

Another learning task involved painting without brushes. Students created their own abstract paintings using a variety of palette knives, cards, netting, fingers, etc. to come up with the beautiful results below.

The Year 9 and 10 students have been working hard to complete their “Flowers, Food or Famous” paintings over the last few weeks. At the moment they are incomplete and we look forward to showcasing them at the Fine Arts Showcase in week 4, Term 4.

Year 11 Visual Art 3 and Art Studio Practice

All Senior Visual Art students are very busy completing all their assignments. Five beautiful bodies of artwork have been evolving over the past two terms and students are finalising artworks and exhibition plans.  We are all looking forward to the final exhibition, a time for external evaluators to visit and grade the art and a time for school community, family and friends to celebrate and view the artwork. We will send out invitations as we get closer to the event in mid November.

High School Music Program Update

Rockband: Our Rockband has welcomed new members this year, and they are progressing well. Transitioning between band changes can be challenging, but we are incredibly proud of our senior members who have stepped up to mentor younger musicians and vocalists. Their leadership is helping build a strong, cohesive group.

Vocal Group: Meeting fortnightly, our vocal group has been learning 3-4 part harmonies. The group is having a fantastic time improving their singing abilities, and we look forward to presenting a special performance in Term 4. It’s been a great opportunity for vocal development and fun!

Year 7: Our Year 7 students have been diving into the world of rock music, learning about rock ensembles and even picking up guitar skills. Their enthusiasm has been fantastic, and they’re enjoying hands-on experience in music-making.

Year 8: In Year 8, students have been exploring the vibrant Music of the Caribbean, particularly Calypso, as part of our different music culture unit. They have also begun learning about the 12-bar blues - studying its harmonic structure, practicing improvisation techniques, and even starting their own compositions!

Year 9 & 10: Our Year 9 and 10 students are engaged in personal music projects, focusing on either performance, composition, or both. They’ve been tasked with designing their own goals and challenges, working solo or in ensembles. Students have been honing various musical skills, collaborating creatively, and pushing themselves to achieve exciting outcomes.

TCE Music Studies: It's exam week for our Music Studies students - a crucial time when all their hard work will be put to the test. Students will complete examinations in improvisation, performance, composition and aural music theory. Let’s wish them all the best as they tackle this intense and important week!

Thank you for your continued support of our music program! We look forward to sharing more updates and celebrating our students' achievements as the year progresses.
