Student School Leaders News
News from the FIRE Carrier Leaders
Dear family, friends, and elders of the Saint Bede’s Community,
This term, we, the Fire Carrier leaders have constructed a diversity program as part of the Year 6 leadership responsibilities. We hope to put this plan into effect in Term 4.
This program will focus on raising awareness within our Australian society about how unique and incredible everyone’s cultures, ethnicities, and traditions are. We are also aiming to reduce the amount of unintended, yet hurtful racism said almost every day, as this is a crucial step to making Saint Bede’s school a safer and better learning space.
Every fortnight, we will invite a guest speaker from a diverse background to give a speech to our students at assembly. This speech should include:
- Information about other ethnicity’s culture, community and traditions
- How your culture and community is unique in comparison to others
- How and why your family chose to come to Australia
- A brief outline of your family structure
At the end of Term 4, we will have a Diversity Day, where every student is invited to wear traditional dress or colours of their ancestors.
Students will also be able to prepare a slideshow to present to their class about their heritage. We will present these slideshows throughout our separate classes on this day.
If you have any further questions or wish to sign up as a speaker for this program, please contact Amanda Martin (amartin@sbedesbn.catholic.edu.au)*
Kind regards,
The Fire Carrier Leaders, Nina Tyler and Adelina Le
