Student Wellbeing

With Krissy Martin, Reginald Zafra, Valentina  Zevallos and Emma Meissner

This week, our school came together to recognise and celebrate R U OK? Day, and it was an absolute hit! The week was filled with meaningful activities, and students across all year levels participated in incursions focused on mental health awareness. A big thank you to all the external organisations who contributed to making these incursions both informative and engaging for our students.

The highlight of the week, R U OK? Day itself, was one to remember. Students took part in a variety of activities, including hair spraying, nail painting, chalk drawing, and games. We were fortunate to partner with several organisations, including No Bull, Raise, Melton Young Communities, Edmund Rice, and our amazing DJ from Moving Melodies, whose support helped make the day extra special. Events like these wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of our community partners, and we are incredibly grateful for their involvement.

We were also honoured to have Cr Steve Abboushi, Deputy Mayor, visit our school. Steve spent time learning about our various wellbeing initiatives and is an integral part of our school community. His ongoing support has helped us foster stronger community connections and access valuable resources that enable us to continue the great work we do in the wellbeing space. His presence was a wonderful acknowledgment of the positive impact our school is making.

One of the day’s standout moments was the exciting breakdancing competition, where Ms. Gunn and Ms. Newitt led their teams with passion and enthusiasm. The crowd was on their feet, cheering loudly for both teams, and while the winner was supposed to be decided by the volume of cheers, the energy was so high that we had to call it a draw! This fun and engaging activity truly brought the school community together for a moment that will go down in history.

A special mention must also go to our incredible Year 9 Ambassadors, who went through a rigorous application and training process to become leaders in the R U OK? Day festivities. These ambassadors were instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of the day's events, and their leadership development is something to be celebrated and commended.

Our students truly embraced the spirit of the day, with many participating in competitions, including the chance to spray a staff member's hair. Thank you to all the staff who supported and engaged in the fun! Classrooms and school spaces were beautifully decorated in yellow to mark the occasion, and we extend a huge congratulations to the winners of the decoration competition: Prep A, Prep B, 4B, 5C, 6A, and 6E.

A huge thank you to all the parents, students, staff, and community members for making this event such a success. We couldn’t have done it without your support!
