In recent weeks, students have been honing their ability to interpret poetry, focusing on both its literal and metaphorical meanings. We've explored a range of poetic styles and speakers, discovering that rhyme is just one of many poetic elements. Our efforts are building towards an exciting goal: creating their own poetry zines, which will be unveiled in Term 4! Readers Theatre has also been a huge hit within our grades! Who knew we had such budding performers in our cohort!

Over the past few weeks, students have been deeply engaged in researching and composing their explanatory texts. They were given the opportunity to select from a rich array of topics, each with its own fascinating aspects: the intricate stages of the butterfly life cycle, the dramatic processes behind volcanic eruptions, the forces and phenomena of earthquakes, and the complex mechanisms of combustion engines. This writing assignment not only allowed students to explore these subjects in depth but also encouraged them to develop their analytical and writing skills as they translated their findings into clear and informative explanations.

Metric measurements and conversions were the focus of the last two weeks. We explored length, mass/weight and capacity. Students should be able to discuss what units of measure are appropriate in different situations. Many of them practised using measuring tapes and converting between millimetres, centimetres and metres (using multiplication and division of 10, 100 and 1000). Please ask your child to discuss what they have been working on and get them to continue to measure and convert over the holidays.

On Monday morning the Grade 5/6 students were lucky enough to have visitors speak to us about their chosen careers. We had police officers, IT workers, Librarians, Waste Collection Officers and many more.

The students were engaged, listening to these adults explain their careers and how they got to where they are today. Students were asking questions and even got to try on uniforms and equipment used by the police.

GIRLS 9V9 AUSTRALIAN RULES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Our Grade 5/6 girls are attending the Northern Regional Championships after winning the district matches earlier this year. The matches are held at Reservoir and are organised by the AFL. Good luck girls!
