In Term 3 we made Billy Carts! We got to make them by ourselves with help of course. We all got into groups and chose a name for our Billy cart. My group was with Frankie, Astrid and Charlotte, we chose the name Pookie bears. Then we designed them on a piece of paper. My group drew a cute brown bear with a red bow on it. Finally we started making them, unfortunately I was sick for a week so I wasn't there for the start of the building but the bit that I was there for was really fun! Then we got to painting which didn't go that smoothly. We kept smudging our paint and having to fix it but we got the job done. The Race day came faster than expected, we had a quick practice around the oval and then the race started, unfortunately our cart nearly fell over making us slow down and lose, but I still liked watching! At the end the Sea pickles won and we all had a great barbeque!

The billy cart race was so fun! It was so fun to make the actual Billy cart. The race was on Friday 13 September. For my team's Billy cart we took turns in driving the Billy cart and riding in the Billy cart. It was so fun but quite scary to ride in, one team’s Billy Cart actually toppled over on its side! When it was finally time for the race everyone lined up their Billy Cart to take a picture of all of them. We all waited for our Billy Cart’s name to get called out and raced. We all pushed our Billy Cart and got to the finish line but we didn’t quite make it into the finals. After the race we had a barbeque and then announced the winners then after that long day we all went home.

This year, the Year 6s got to build Billy carts for the Billy cart race and it was very fun. In my group there was me, Cung, Mission and Mary. Building the Billy carts was really fun because we got to learn skills about building that we can maybe use in our future. Designing them was even more fun because we got to show off our artist skills and it was just fun painting. For our painting on the back of our Billy cart, my team chose Spiderman and we chose Mary to sketch Spiderman because she was probably the best artist out of all of us but when it came to painting Spiderman on the back and painting the sides blue, we all got to participate. Overall we got 4th place and it was very fun but at the start of the races it was very nerve racking and in my opinion we had the best billy cart design.

I found the billy carts an exhilarating race. The thrill of the race was amazing. We ran around the track as fast as we could and the other team was gaining on us. We could win or lose at this rate. We switched runners. The other team right behind us! It was a tough race but it was exciting and motivating. It was hard. We all did our best.
At the end we auctioned the billy carts for more than 90 Dollars.
The most enjoyable thing about the billy carts for me was building them. The deadline was a little stressful. It was mostly fun, the race was great and my team was amazing.
I hope we raised a lot of money for the charity. The charity we chose are the SES volunteers for helping us after the storm. Thank you SES.
I wish the Year 5 luck for next year's race!

MECS held its very first Senior Primary Speech Competition on Monday 16 September. This competition was created because there were so many students who put themselves forward for the Rotary Public Speech Competition in August, but we could only enter two applicants. Because of this enthusiasm, we decided to create our very own competition, which will now become an annual event.
There was a prize for each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place holders. Each student also received a certificate of achievement, as public speaking is such a courageous activity to put themselves forward for.
We started by listening to Amelie B’s prize winning speech from the Rotary Competition, ‘If you could have one superpower what would it be?’ Amelie was placed second this year and will present again to Rotary later in the year.
After Amelie’s speech, these students (in no particular order) presented theirs, Jayda H, Arshida A, Alyssa R, Nathan G, Gabrielle D, Alannah V, Quin F, Abbey B, Josh W, Harin P and Zahara M.
We would like to congratulate all the students for their willingness to participate in this extra-curricula activity, we are so proud of them!

The Prep students celebrated a wonderful term of Mathematics learning with a creative shop role play. Each class created their own pretend 'shopping centre' with cafes, a book shop, car shop, toy shops and many other wonderful ideas. The students were very proud and dedicated shop keepers. Each class also went shopping and thoroughly enjoyed browsing and purchasing a variety of treasures.

During Term 3, Senior Primary students learned about the Driving Force of the Southern Ocean. Their camp experience at Phillip Island was designed to support their curiosity. Students were asked to choose an area of research that interested them regarding the importance of the Southern Ocean, Fisher’s Wetland, or a species from the Southern Ocean. They learned about the benefits, threats, possible solutions, and Indigenous information relevant to their chosen area of interest. Students demonstrated their knowledge using creative displays and technology to present to an authentic audience, as well as including a hand response to raise awareness as God’s stewards for our environment. This might have included writing to an organisation, adopting a sea creature, creating advertising flyers, or even writing to our own office to make the change to environmentally safe cleaning products! Please enjoy the pictorial response to this exciting project.
