RU OK Week

Towards the end of last term, we celebrated RU OK Week in the Secondary. It was a fun week that was packed full of lots of activities and goodies… sharing the important message for us all to check in with each other.

Hunter W, Year 8, did a fantastic job sharing about RU OK Week during JS assembly, and gave some great advice around how we can all check in with each other.

Owen P, Year 12, shared a devotion during SS assembly, highlighting Jesus as a great example on how to care for and love others.

Each secondary student was invited to decorate yellow bunting with a message of hope and encouragement to each other. These were displayed around the school and were a beautiful expression of creativity and God’s love.

Huge thanks to all the students who helped with decorating over 300 RU OK Cookies, making RU OK posters, help run the ‘RU OK Check In’ tables, face painting and so much more! Thanks also to many teachers and staff who helped in different ways, from leading a fun Zumba session (Thanks Mrs. Joiner), social media and posters (Thanks Grace), Chin Hmunkhat I Pumhnak Pher (Thanks Jeni, Lily and Clare), bringing Baa-rbie the lamb (Thanks Mrs. Miller) and more!

It was so exciting to see everyone (students, teachers, staff, guinea pigs and lamb), come together to bring awareness of the importance of us all living in community, providing care and love for each other by simply, but genuinely asking, ‘RU OK?’.

From the Well Being Staff

My favourite part of RU OK week was all the fun lunchtime activities with students. I loved seeing the students engage in all the different activities (facepainting, cookies, Zumba…) - Sam, Wellbeing Officer

My favourite part was having a chance to work alongside students and other staff collaboratively in different and unique ways. This created space for conversation and connection! - Ady, Wellbeing Officer

One of my favourite parts of RU OK week was seeing the way our students served and loved each other in practical ways. Also seeing the joy of guinea pig cuddles when they ventured up the hill to visit the senior secondary students. - Mel, Counsellor

I loved seeing students working together to decorate cookies and the excitement students had on RU OK Day in seeing all the beautifully coloured cookies and being so excited to eat them. - Amanda, Counsellor

Oh, I loved it ALL, it’s hard to pick the best part… I loved seeing students use their own voice to share their thoughts about RU OK Week with others (Yay Hunter!), and how SO many students helped out and owned the week… that was amazing!” - Bonnie, Secondary Wellbeing Coordinator

I loved the prayer breakfast we had in the Senior Secondary School and sausage sizzle in the Junior Secondary. It was so great to be able to pray for God’s peace and presence over our senior students. The sausage sizzle also created a great atmosphere of connection, where students were chatting with church youth leaders, whilst raising funds for youth mental health. - Matt, Chaplain
