Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history and take meaningful steps toward a more unified future. Held annually from May 27 to June 3, this important week marks two significant milestones: the 1967 referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision. Throughout the week students have had the opportunity to learn about the cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to strengthen respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. This year’s theme, “Now More Than Ever,” reminds us that reconciliation is not a one-week event, but an ongoing journey that requires action, commitment, and open dialogue from every one of us. Take a look at some work completed by our 5/6 students around Reconciliation Week.

Speak With Power

This week sees the conclusion of our ‘Speak with Power’ series facilitated by Ron Thomas. Over the last few weeks students have been involved in workshops focused on developing skills in public speaking. Students learnt explicit skills around presenting, voice, audience engagement and speech writing. This week they presented their short speeches to their peers and educators. Here is what some of the students had to say about their experience:

James N

Ron boosted my confidence a lot and helped me speak louder and not be scared to talk infront of a big crowd. And it was really good for helping people to speak.

Saul D

Honestly, I think that this Speak with Power  thing was really good, good in teaching courage, good in teaching self-esteem, and great in teaching Public Speaking! My first speech was about me, and my life. My second speech was about my speciality; soccer and it's origins. My third speech was about Rubik's Cubes, and what they are. Overall, I think this was a really good program.

Maya E

My speech was about Spade-Toothed Whales. I really enjoyed Speak with Power because it gave us an oppurtunity to grow in public speaking.
