Year 7 to Year 9

Year 9 Retreat Camp: Walking The Salvado Way

Last week, our Year 9 students embarked on a truly memorable retreat at Cahoots Adventure Camp, where they embraced the spirit of The Salvado Way. The retreat focused on building respectful relationships and learning the value of teamwork—core values inspired by our College patron, Bishop Rosendo Salvado.

Throughout the camp, students took part in exciting and challenging activities such as orienteering, rock climbing, high ropes, and archery. These experiences pushed them to be patient, communicate clearly, trust one another, and offer support—skills that are essential both on and off the field.

One of the most special moments of the retreat was gathering around the campfire for heartfelt conversations. These quiet, reflective times allowed students to connect more deeply with each other and with their own personal journeys.

A highlight for many was walking a section of the Camino Salvado as modern-day pilgrims. As they walked, students reflected on Bishop Salvado’s journey and their own, showing patience, perseverance, and prudence. They also took time to pray and reflect, making the experience both spiritual and meaningful.

A very special thank you goes to Mr Michael Cave, who crafted the beautiful Salvado Way Cross. This cross will now accompany all students whenever they walk a section of the Camino Salvado, serving as a reminder that Jesus walks with them on their journey. During the retreat, each student had the opportunity to carry the cross, symbolising their shared faith and commitment.

We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated staff who made this retreat possible: Mrs Rebecca Furfaro, Ms Leanne Long, Mr Michael Peter, Ms Steph Osborne, Mr Michael Cave, Mr Evano De Pontes, and Ms Holly Vogels (prac student). Your guidance and support helped make this retreat a rich and rewarding experience for all involved.

Year 7 Leadership Day: Learning from Lorin Nicholson

Our Year 7 students took part in an inspiring Leadership Day led by renowned motivational speaker Lorin Nicholson. Legally blind since birth due to retinitis pigmentosa, Lorin has never let his disability define his limits. Instead, he has become a record-breaking cyclist, award-winning musician, best-selling author, and recipient of the Order of Australia Medal.

Lorin shared his powerful life story with our students, encouraging them to face life’s challenges with courage, resilience, and a positive mindset. His message was clear: the greatest mountain we climb is the one inside ourselves. Through engaging storytelling and music, Lorin helped our students understand that leadership is about perseverance, empathy, and believing in your own potential.
