Snapshots from the week

Open Day at Balmoral State High School!
So great to see so many families at our Open Day on Wednesday. A big thank you to all staff and students involved in getting the day together.
We will announce the winners of our passport vouchers for SRS & student uniforms in the coming days!
Agency Prefect Sahara visits Parliament
Sahara was invited by Hon Di Farmer to attend parliament this week after powerfully expressing her ideas and solutions during a recent discussion. Inspired by an English unit on topical issues, Sahara’s clarity and passion stood out—proof that English empowers young people to speak with purpose and drive change!
"It was an amazing experience, as I learnt more about how Parliament is run and could refer back to things I had already known in the classroom," says Sahara.
Everyone at Balmoral - including Sahara’s English teacher, Ms Doyle - is extremely proud!
Year 4 STEM Masterclass in Action
Future innovators took on exciting hands-on challenges today as they explored the exciting world of technology!
From robots to flying drones and testing their skills in aviation simulators, it was all happening!
Big thanks to Head of Junior School Mr Ashley Boyd for engaging with surrounding Primary Schools.
Multicultural Day at Balmoral State High School
Today we celebrated the incredible diversity that makes our school so special. A huge thank you to our amazing international students, the International Department, and the wonderful Ms Sutton for organising such a vibrant and meaningful day!
From traditional dress to spectacular performances — it was a day to remember.
Balmoral Basketballers Shine!
Well done to our Junior Secondary team who came away from the Champion Basketball School qualifying with a 2 and 1 record.
The boys had 2 won against some high-quality competition 58-48, 54-39 and went down to a very strong sunshine coast team, 28-43.
Congratulations to all involved!
Lunchbox Sessions with Emma Anderson
Thanks to Emma Anderson from Santos Engineering for inspiring our students with real-world insights into STEM careers during today’s Lunchbox Session
Fourth Round Debates
Our 8s and 10s took to the debating stage this week for their fourth round debates. Our 10s debated about the rise of TikTok and Reels, 10.1 came out on top against Villanova, whilst unfortunately 10.2 fell short against Yeronga SHS. On Thursday night, the 8s lost in a very narrow and well fought debate against Brisbane SHS about the harm of gender stereotyped media and toys.
Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
On Monday's Whole School Assembly this week, two of our First Nations student leaders, Darlene Anderson and Jackson Dunford, acknowledged two important dates that are coming up, Sorry Day on Monday 26th May and Reconciliation Week.
National Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June and commemorates two significant milestones in Australian’s reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.
Jackson and Darlene invited our school community to stop, reflect and recognise the ongoing impact of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families in what is now referred to as the Stolen Generation.
Balmoral State High School honours the strength and courage of the survivors of the Stolen Generation and are committed to truth-telling and healing as the only way to move forward. Reconciliation Week then directly follows and supports this commitment by turning this acknowledgement into united action.
There will be a range of activities in the coming week to educate and celebrate First Nations culture. At Balmoral State High School all cultures are valued and welcomed and everyone belongs.

Year 7 Music Academy
This week our year 7 Music Academy class welcomed Stefanie Smith from the Griffith University Conservatorium of Music.
Stefanie ran a performance workshop with our young musicians and provided them with practical constructive feedback that will help them be the best performers that they can be. The students also worked with Stefanie on their stage craft skills.
Our year 7 Music Academy students are now looking forward to putting their knowledge and skills on show in concerts at the end of terms 2 and 3.
