In writing, we have been learning to write detailed literary descriptions that use vivid language to help the readers clearly imagine the people, places, and events we are describing. We used our senses of sight, smell, taste, and touch to create images of marshmallows. We imagined describing a delicious marshmallow: its soft, squishy feel, sweet vanilla scent, and the way it melts in your mouth. By tapping into our senses, we were able to make our stories and descriptions so real that readers felt like they're right there with us! We were rewarded by eating some marshmallows at the end of the task.
Last week in maths we continued describing and comparing 2D shapes by identifying any right angles, comparing the number of parallel lines, and if they had any equal sides. Using paper or the box of shapes, we were able to make other shapes by combining more than one shape. This week we have begun multiplication and identifying the patterns the answers form.
We’ve begun a new unit in science learning to identify different materials as a solid, liquid or gas through hands-on experiences. We are exploring how adding or removing heat can affect a material’s state of matter through investigations and experiments. This involves us working scientifically and using scientific thinking.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the trips to the Bicentennial Hall to learn some basketball skills. We have been concentrating on mastering the skills rather than racing to the other side to finish first. We have learnt some new tricks to scoring a basket and have had great success. What a wonderful opportunity this has been.
It was lovely to see some visitors in our classroom last week. The children thoroughly enjoyed showing off their class and work. Thank you for taking the time to come and see us.
