Principals Report

What an Amazing Fortnight at Glen Innes High School!

It has been a fantastic two weeks at Glen Innes High School, filled with achievement, participation, and school spirit. We continue to be inspired by the commitment and enthusiasm of our students, staff, and families in making our school a supportive and vibrant learning environment.

We are incredibly proud to announce that our Stage 5 Science and Engineering Challenge team has officially qualified for the State Finals in August. This prestigious competition, coordinated by the University of Newcastle, challenges students to think creatively and work collaboratively to solve real-world engineering problems. Qualifying for the state finals is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the hard work, passion, and teamwork of our students and their dedicated teachers. We can’t wait to see what they achieve next!

Our Annual Athletics Carnival was another major highlight. The day was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and impressive levels of student participation. We were especially proud of the outstanding behaviour, teamwork, and sportsmanship shown by all students throughout the event. It was fantastic to see students giving their best effort, cheering each other on, and representing their houses with pride. Events like these remind us of the importance of belonging and school spirit, and we thank all staff who made the day such a success.

There is also a lot happening in the Careers space. Mrs Wright has been working tirelessly to organise the upcoming Year 10 Work Experience Week, and we extend a huge thank you to all the local businesses who have generously offered placements. These real-world experiences are invaluable, giving students a deeper understanding of the workplace, helping them explore career interests, and developing important life skills such as communication, time management, and responsibility.

We also had a strong turnout for our University Information Evening on Thursday night. A big thank you to Mrs Wright for delivering such an informative and engaging session. We know that both students and parents walked away feeling better informed and supported as they look ahead to future study options.

A reminder to all families that we are a proud uniform school. Wearing the correct school uniform each day is an important part of showing pride in our school, promoting a sense of belonging, and creating an environment where everyone is treated equally. Families play a key role in supporting this expectation. Please ensure your child leaves home each morning in full school uniform and with all the necessary equipment for learning. These small, consistent routines help students prepare for success and uphold the values we stand for at Glen Innes High School.

We also want to remind all parents and carers that attending school every day is a legal requirement. Regular attendance is vital for every child’s academic success and wellbeing. Missing even a few days can make it difficult for students to stay on top of their learning. If your child is unwell or has a legitimate reason for being absent, please notify the school office as soon as possible with the reason for their absence. Maintaining regular attendance ensures your child has every opportunity to engage in learning, develop strong friendships, and reach their full potential. Let’s work together to give every student the best chance to succeed.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us create a positive, respectful, and thriving school community. We are proud of the many ways our students are growing, contributing, and achieving—and we look forward to sharing even more successes in the weeks to come.

As we move into the June long weekend, I wish everyone a safe and relaxing break. If you're heading away, please travel safely. School will resume on Tuesday, 10 June.
