Year 5/6 News

LITERACY
In reading, students have been creating responses to the mentor text 'Waves' by Donna Rawlins as they explore the themes and historical contexts of the stories within the book.
Students continued to practice the 5P's of public speaking (Pace, Pause, Pitch, Projection & Personality) in the lead up to presenting their Lion's Club Speeches yesterday. All students should be very proud of their efforts and achievements. It takes courage to get up and speak in front of an audience and we commend the students for doing so. Winners from this stage of the competition will be notified early next week and will then present their speech to the Lions Club panel of judges on June 26th in the BER.
MATHS
Students have continued their investigation into fractions. Part of this involved working on open-ended tasks that encourages problem-solving and collaboration.
FIGHT MND
On Tuesday, prior to the LCS Ice Bucket Challenge, students listened to Neale Daniher's famous speech that he presented to the players of the Melbourne Football Club in 2017. Students responded to the speech by discussing what inspired them and by answering a series of questions about the content of Neale's speech.
