Principal’s News

Dear Families,

Welcome to Term 3. It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back. Each morning brings me such joy to hear the sounds of the children as they wait to enter the school gate. When I see their beaming smiles and am greeted with a friendly good morning it reminds me how lucky I am to be at St Joseph’s. Over the holidays a school is such a quiet place. I was speaking with some neighbours who live near the school recently who all expressed how glad they were to see the children back at school. They described how uplifted they feel as they walk past our school and see and hear how happy our children are to be here.

Happy Birthday Mrs Moore

Mrs Moore celebrated her birthday on Tuesday 23 July. The children were very excited to sing Happy Birthday to their much-loved Principal at our school assembly. The birthday rendition was filmed and sent through to Michelle so that she knows how much she is in the hearts of all the children.

The video was a highlight of Michelle’s day with her commenting… “Oh, that’s very special. I really appreciate the thoughts and birthday wishes. Thank you to all the children. I am thinking of you all!”

Michelle would also like to thank the community for their birthday wishes.

Farewell Ms Cleere

As many of you would be aware, we sadly said farewell to Edel Cleere last week. On the last day of Term 2, Edel received the news that the process for applying for her new visa for working in Australia had taken longer than anticipated and she was still awaiting the assessment. This was obviously unexpected and upsetting news for both Edel and the St Joseph’s community as Edel was unable to work in Australia beyond Friday 19th July. The timeline for the assessment and the outcome of the assessment is unknown.

Edel was a much-loved and valued member of our school community. She contributed to our school through her roles as a classroom teacher, performing arts teacher and STEM teacher. The children have such fond memories of the Production Finding Nemo that Edel worked tirelessly on alongside our wonderful Principal Michelle. We wish Edel every blessing for her future endeavours and extend our deepest gratitude for the contributions she has made to St Joseph’s.

Student Welcome

We are delighted to welcome Lucas (3D), Alina (2H), Dylan (2H) and Victor (5C) who have joined the St Joseph’s community this term. They have made a great start and have fitted in seamlessly both in the classroom and on the playground. We feel very fortunate to have met these children and their families and look forward to them being integral members of the St Joseph’s family.

Staff Welcome

With a few staff on maternity leave, we have welcomed new staff to our community. We welcome Fiona Hansford (STEM), Rachelle Kellett (Performing Arts), Sharon Bennett (Italian - Friday) and Ella Clerehan (Year 3 Classroom). Each of these teachers comes with many gifts and talents to share. The most important skill that each of them brings is their love of teaching and their commitment to your beautiful children who you have entrusted to their care. Each of them has commented on what a friendly and vibrant community they have joined.

Champions of our School

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 girls who competed in the Beachside Netball Finals at Stonnington Sports Centre. The girls played against other teams who also won their district competition. They competed with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship and finished 4th competition. Well done to Bridget, Pip, Lucy, Harriet, Lenny, Frances, Cataleya, Alyssia, Alexis and Adhithi for how well you represented yourselves and your school. We are all very proud of you!

Year 4 Eucharist Commitment Mass

This Sunday 28 July our Year 4 students will be making their Commitment prior to receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist later this term at the 10.30 parish Mass at St Joseph’s church. All are welcome!

Cake Stall

We were blessed with a wonderful final day of Term 2 with Friendship Fair day culminating with the baking talents of our fantastic parent community. The cake stall was once again a huge success, they raised $908.00 and had great community spirit. Well done to all our fabulous chefs who not only showed us what great cooks they are but also modelled to the children the importance of being generous of spirit and positive contributors to our school.
