MLC Wicked Excursion
On Wednesday, the MLC students from both campuses had the pleasure of attending 'Wicked,' the musical, at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. The performance left a lasting impression on the students, staff, and parent volunteers, with some students even proclaiming it as the best day of their lives. For many of our students, this was a first-time experience, and their excitement was obvious as they couldn't stop talking about the event for days. Teachers used the experience as a learning provocation, students engaged in reading and writing about the musical.
Scanlan Foundation – Springvale Narrative
The Scanlon Foundation Research Institute undertakes research to help Australia advance as a welcoming, prosperous and cohesive nation, particularly where this relates to the transition of migrants into Australian society. During 2023, they interviewed Springvale locals, including a number of staff and parents from Springvale Rise, to craft a narrative highlighting the communities response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The narrative provides insight into the strong social foundation built by the Springvale community over time, and how under substantial pandemic pressure, the community was able to rally in an example of the power of a cohesive community.
I had the privilege, alongside our School Council President, Ms. Louisa Willoughby, of participating in a panel discussion during the launch event, where we shared insights into Springvale and Springvale Rise Primary School's experiences during and after the pandemic. A copy of the narrative will soon be available on Compass. We encourage you to take the time to read it.
Enrolments for 2025
As we plan for the upcoming academic year, we kindly request families with children eligible to start school in 2025 to complete their enrolments now. If you are aware of any friends or neighbours intending to enrol their children at our school, please encourage them to visit the office and complete the necessary paperwork. Enrolment forms are accessible at the office, and interpreters are on hand to provide translation assistance. School tours can also be arranged upon request. Enrolments must be submitted by Friday, July 26th.
Refugee Week
Next week marks Refugee Week, a significant event at Springvale Rise Primary School. Members of our community will be sharing their inspiring stories with staff and students across both campuses. We eagerly anticipate hearing their narratives.
Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead and Eid Mubarak to all the families who observe Eid al-Adha next week!
