News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Thanks to the McKay, Thom, Lui, Joe, Cottonaro and Roberts families for taking such great care of our school chickens over the school holidays. The chickens really miss the students during the holidays and they look forward to the duty families coming to visit them each day. We hope you got lots of eggs and baked lots of delicious goodies with them, yum!

Egg Lotto

For your chance to win 1 dozen eggs just buy an egg lotto ticket. Tickets are only $1 each!

The next Egg Lotto draw will be Monday 22nd July.

We usually sell tickets in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:10-3:20pm, selling tickets to students, parents, grandparents and carers. If not, tickets are available to buy at any time, just bring your money into school and the Environment Leaders will help you out.

All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for our chickens. There will be a few dozen eggs available to win so get your winning $1 raffle ticket soon!

News from the Garden

Each week while we sell Egg Lotto tickets we sometimes also sell fresh produce from our garden depending on what’s ready to harvest. Our lemons are lovely and juicy so keep an eye out as they are always popular and sell very quickly!

There is always our fabulous Worm Juice available to purchase. Worm Juice is the name our students have given to the liquid we collect from the worm farms which is organic liquid fertiliser. It is packed full of nutrients that gives your garden a much needed boost. Your fruit, vegetables and flowers will all appreciate a special treat of St John’s Worm Juice. Just ask Jenny in the office how much her garden loves Worm Juice! Only $2 for 2 Litres, instructions are provided.

Please ask for it if it’s not on display.

Meet our Environment Mascots

We’d like to introduce you to Oceania the Dolphin and Coral the Sea Turtle. These soft toys have been donated to the Environment and Future Leaders who have repurposed them and given them a new life as our school Environment Mascots. These mascots have become part of the Soft Plastic Reduction Initiative that we have begun at school. Please read on to learn more about their new role at school.

Soft Plastic Reduction Initiative-Part 3

Each day the Future Leaders are keeping a tally of how many wrapper free lunch boxes are in their classrooms. At the end of every 2 weeks we work out which classes have the highest percentages of wrapper free lunch boxes and the winners will be announced at assembly.

The two winning classes will receive one of the Environment Mascots to keep in their room for 2 weeks and they will also receive 15 class Dojo points!

The winners from the end of last term are.......... 1/2A and 1/2B

To help everyone get settled into Term 3 this tally cycle of wrapper free lunch boxes will go for three weeks so the next two winning classes will be announced at assembly on Monday 5th August. Keep up the great work everyone, just do your best and remember that every day is a new day!

Did you Know?…

A study by the World Wildlife Fund estimated that at least 100,000 marine animals die from plastic pollution every year.
