Careers Update

Semester 2 would have to be the most exciting part of the year for me.   Although, it is a busy time with students choosing VCE or VCE-VM pathways, VET courses, VCE Subjects, University or other Tertiary courses.  I always look forward to my time in conversation with students regarding plans for the future and how I can support them along the way.  For some students, the future plans are easy and have been determined by interests and skills developed and explored in younger years, for others it is an ever changing unknown.

There is no right or wrong and students need to understand that learning is a lifelong process.  Any decision made now regarding future work, can easily change over the course of a person’s work life.

Research has shown that the average person changes jobs every 1-5 years, that could mean in a typical work life around 10 different jobs.  This is from the Australian Bureau of Statistics for anyone else like me who is interested in the numbers:

  • There were 13.8 million people employed in February 2023. Over half (56%) had been employed in their current job for less than 5 years. About 1 in 5 (21%) had been in their job for less than 1 year.
  • The proportion of those in their current job between 1 and 4 years has risen since 2022, up from 34% to 35%.
  • About 1 in 10 employed people (10%) had been in their current job for 20 years or more.

2024 VET Enrolments

Current year 10 students who registered an expression of interest in VET enrolment for 2024 have now been emailed for confirmation of interest. Next week a VET enrolment form (and relevant additional forms) will be given to students to return as soon as possible.

Once these forms are received (signed by parents), the student's application will be lodged with the relevant RTO.

All 2023 1st year VET students currently enrolled in for 2023 have been emailed to confirm if they intend to continue for 2nd year in 2024.  I will be following up with students in the coming weeks.

For students interested in enrolling in Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology (VETA Morphus), enrolments open on September 1st.

VETA have provided this recording of the recent information session for students and families:

Year 12 VTAC & SEAS Applications

It’s great to see that a number of year 12 VCE students have already registered with VTAC.  There is just over three weeks until the end of term and I would like to encourage all students to have registered and have course preferences entered by the end of Week 8.  Students will need to ensure that payment has been made before 28th September to avoid paying the higher fees.

A large number of Universities have already held their Open Day.  However, it’s not too late to get along to Open Days in the coming week at Collarts, Deakin Uni, Eastern College (MST), Victoria Uni and various regional campuses.  If you missed the Open Day, you can contact the university and enquire if they are hosting tours on campus.  Attending the campus and talking to the faculty could help when choosing your preferences for the VTAC Application.
