Performing Arts Showcase

Last Thursday evening saw our performing arts students take part in the Annual Performing Arts Showcase at Marie Bashir Public School in Strathfield. Those fortunate to attend were privileged to see and hear many outstanding performances that left the crowd wanting to hear more. The boys that performed deserved all the applause and congratulations that were afforded to them given the incredible talent on show. We as a community are very fortunate to have so many boys with wide-ranging talents and it is so pleasing that we can highlight the performing arts crew on this occasion. Special thanks go to our wonderful Ensemble Coordinator, Dr David Taylor who led proceedings so well. He along with our music tutors and Ms Grapé deserve much credit for having the boys prepared to such a high standard. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous staff who attended the evening in support of our students and did so much work behind the scenes. It would be remiss of me not to also thank and acknowledge the parents/carers who provide such enthusiastic support of their sons. Well done to all involved.

Senior School Sport - Winter Season 2023 Conclusion – Athletics Season 2023 Commencement

As many of you are aware, the 2023 Winter sports season has concluded. While I will leave it to Mr Calavassy to give an overview of the last round and the season as a whole in his article, there are a number of people that I would like to acknowledge and thank.

I wholeheartedly thank:

  • The parents/carers who continually support their son/s and teammates in an enthusiastic and positive manner. You often drive all over the Sydney Metropolitan area to transport your son and his mates to games without complaint. In doing so you are assisting these boys with the creation of many life-long positive memories.

  • The coaches who show care and respect of the boys by turning up and “putting in” in an area of the boys’ interest. Many of you are such positive role models for boys turning into young men and the fruits of your labor will come to the fore in years to come.

  • Mr Youseff and Mr Fontana for their excellent guidance and follow-up of all things attached to their chosen sports. They along with the Heads of Football and Rugby Development have worked hard to ensure that measures are in place so that our boys learn and grow in their preferred sport.

  • Mr Calavassy and Mr Locke for overseeing the sport program. No-one will ever know how much work they do behind the scenes during the course of the season in order for events/fixtures to go ahead on Saturdays. They both coach teams, Mr Calavassy has also served as MIC Rugby this season and as you would be aware, they are ever vigilant on a Saturday to respond to the needs of the community and our opponents. We are all very lucky to have them on “our team”.

  • The boys. No matter what grade or sport a boy plays in, I am just so grateful to those that turn up to training each week and play with determination and pride. I know that not all our boys play or train with the same conviction, but I am hopeful they will learn from others and there will be a positive change in attitude next season.

  • Brynn Williams, Felix Yeung and Alessandro Romeo for their excellent leadership of not only our Firsts but their chosen sport in general. You are a credit to yourselves, your family and the SPC community.

As one season concludes another one commences with our Athletics Squad taking to the Track and Field this coming Saturday. In recent years, our squad numbers have decreased significantly and Mr Calavassy made a rallying call to arms at last Friday’s Assembly. I encourage all boys who have a given talent to step forward and take part in the Athletics season for the next three and a half weeks. Get in, have a go, and enjoy being out there with your mates.

Congratulations are extended to Oliver Xuereb and Thomas Brennan who have been chosen to lead the Squad this year. I know that they will do outstanding jobs as Captain and Vice Captain.
