Lights Shining Brightly

It was such a pleasure to witness the Performing Arts Showcase last Thursday night. A night that demonstrated the amazing talents of our most creative musicians and chorists at the College. The night was bookended by the Concert Band, ably led by Dr Taylor. Having so many musicians on stage, playing instruments that they love was truly inspiring. It was so pleasing to be able to listen to music that truly made your heart sing. It made me think of a famous line from Shawshank Redemption when Andy Dufresne said: “That's the beauty of music. They can't get that from you...” Haven't you ever felt that way about music?

Throughout the evening we listened to different ensembles and bands. I was so pleased for these young men who put in so much time to practice. The Drumline was truly spectacular. Not only was their music inspiring, but the way they also entertained the audience is truly something I feel blessed to have seen. The College Choir’s medley from Les Misérables was outstanding. The way that piece was composed and then delivered by the students is something that everyone will remember for a long time.

I would like to congratulate all the staff and students for the time and effort they put in daily that ensures they could showcase their talents to the SPC community. I would also like to thank the parents/carers for the support of their sons. Often when I am going to work early, I see the early morning drop-offs of students attending Music lessons before school.

I look forward to hearing more from these outstanding young men as the year progresses.
