Kitchen and Garden & Sustainability News

Kitchen

Pasta week!!!  All our students tried their hand at making pasta this week which was lots of fun.  With our pasta making music playing and our newly acquired skills we made orecchiette, linguini and gnocchi.  It was 'choose your own adventure' style with two delicious sauces and our bowls of hand-made pasta in the middle of our Shared Table.  Lot of enthusiastic feedback was shared after our meal this week!

Garden

A stunning day in the garden today! We almost needed out hats :)

With our spirits high, we completed a mountain of tasks.

We cleaned out the chicken coop, weeded the fruit trees,  we installed a new bean patch and designed a sigh wo go with it, watered with worm tea, moved compost to our new pumpkin patch, weeded paths and gardens, fed and cuddled the chickens and much more. It was a lovely environment with everyone happy and working brilliantly as a team. I am so proud of the work they performed.

Environment Club

Environment Club is starting!  Grade 3-6's are welcome.  Come to our round table in the kitchen at lunchtime on Tuesdays to throw some ideas around, small or large, all are welcome. We can't wait to start some projects with you.

Creative Crew

This week our team made fabulous hand woven baskets out of wool and scrap cardboard. We all supported eash other creative style and worked hard on producing some great baskets that can be used for fathers day or as suggested by the group, easter eggs!

Food Scrap Friday

NEW DROP OFF LOCATION COMMENCING AUGUST 2023

Pete's Gate at the Garden!!

Food scrap Friday is an amazing initiative that was started up a few years ago by the Guise family. It is going strong and last year we saved a record amount of food scraps from making its way to landfill to pollute our environment.

If you are interested in joining in on our war against food waste, come along to Pete's Gate at 8.30am Friday mornings and meet our fabulous team of food waste warriors. They will give you a bucket and let you know what can and cant go in it.

If you have a full bucket, bring it along!

If you have a spare bucket please return so we can continue to circulate them throughout our school community..

Volunteers

We are still looking for volunteers for the Term 3 program in our Kitchen and Garden classes. Please email Fleur or Clancey if you are able to come along to any of these classes. We are so appreciative of any help.  Alternatively if you decide on the day you can make it, the more the merrier, we would love to have you (just make sure you have completed the following below and you can read some documents prior to starting).

Kitchen – Fleur.Kilpatrick@education.vic.gov.au

Garden – Clancey.McKenzie2@education.vic.gov.au

There a few things that need to be ticked off before volunteering:

Read a few documents that we will email you to ensure the upmost safety of our students.

And then you’re ready to go!

If you are unable to make the classes this term due to other commitments and still want to be a part of our program we would absolutely love some help gardening.  It’s a big garden!  You don’t need to be a gardener to help out, there are many jobs and so much to learn for everyone.  Clancey will be in the garden Tuesday from 1pm and all day Wednesday and Thursday.  She would really appreciate some gardeners to accompany her on these days.  You are also very welcome to pop in any other day to do a spot of gardening to help manage our patch, even if it’s just 15 minutes around school drop off and pick up, every little bit helps.

Lastly, we are looking for some volunteers to go on a watering roster (20 mins) at every school drop off.

Please email Clancey (above) if you are able to help out in the garden in any way, she will be eager to answer you email.

We are so grateful for all the assistance and enthusiasm that is given to this amazing program for our students.  Thank you.

Kind Regards,

Fleur and Clancey
