State Netball for Stage 2 Girls

In early August, the Stage 2 Netball Team headed up to Penrith to compete in the CSSA State Netball Competition.

The girls qualified for State after coming second in the south coast Metro Cup competition late last term.

It was an exciting day as the girls began in a pool of teams including Shire Christian School, Penrith Christian School and Northern Beaches Christian School.

Of the four games in Round 1, Nowra won two, tied one and lost by 1 goal in the last game. The girls were absolutely amazing and came together as a team to play their very best.

It was tough to lose out on the quarter finals by 1 goal, but nevertheless, the girls played with dignity and grace. It is wonderful to see our students demonstrating good sportsmanship from a young age, with a humble and positive attitude.

All agree that the day brought lots of fun and excitement. We hope to be there again next year.

NCS Touch Footy Gala Day

On Wednesday 9 August, Forty-three Stage 2 and 3 students participated in a Touch Footy Gala Day here at NCS.

James Galea, the Games Development Officer for NSW Touch Football ran the students through some drills to hone their skills. Teams were formed and with the assistance of high school students - Riley W and Adele G as referees, six teams played a number of games to put their skills to the test.

The sun was shining and it was a perfect day to be out enjoying some friendly games of Touch. With so many keen primary participants, there is sure to be good numbers feeding through to high school teams in the coming years.

Many thanks to Mr Parker and Mr Terlich who ran some lunchtime practices leading up to the Gala Day.

NCS student Millie W to represent NSW

Year 10 student, Millie W has been thoroughly inspired by Matildas goalie, Mackenzie Arnold's amazing performance at the recent FIFA Women's World Cup. And so, she was in shock when her Mum and Dad interrupted Maths (sorry Mrs Toole!) to give her some exciting news in front of her classmates.

Millie has been selected as goalkeeper for the Football NSW Country U16 Girls State team. They will play at the National Youth Championships, 9-13 October in Wollongong, against State and Territory teams from across Australia.

Starting in the U6's, Millie followed in the footsteps of her Dad and older brothers, Tom and Riley, playing with the Callala Brumbies. Being the only girl on the team never fazed her. And although the boys didn't take training as seriously as she would have liked, Millie was sad to leave them when she had to find a girls team.

The Culburra Cougars girls welcomed her. Then she made the Shoalhaven Rep teams and of course has always keenly played for NCS.

Every step of the way, Millie has had the most wonderful coaches (including her Dad) who have encouraged her love of the game and good sportsmanship.

Then last year, to further pursue her passion for soccer, advance her skills and work towards her goals, she joined South East Phoenix FC, and was invited into the Talent Support Program. She learned a lot at the Country Development and Selection Camp at Bathurst. She gave it everything she had, and was filled with gratitude and an awareness of God's presence with her.

Millie has trained hard to put the gifts the Lord has given her to good use, and is very excited to have earned the opportunity to represent NSW Country.

Well done Millie!

Farewell Mr Johnstone!

This week, Primary students farewelled the much-loved Mr Mark Johnstone.

For the past 12 years, Mark has visited our school every Term 3 to run soccer coaching clinics for our students.  For many years, Mark has been heavily involved in local and regional football/soccer at club and representative levels, coaching hundreds of children and young people.

Mr Johnstone and his wife are relocating to Tweed Heads to be closer to their grandchildren. We wish him well and are thankful for his involvement at NCS.

Triumphs on the Track: NCS Secondary Students Shine at CSSA State Athletics

On 24 August, 18 NCS Secondary students participated in the CSSA State Athletics event hosted at Sydney Olympic Park (SOPAC).

Noteworthy achievements include:

  • Emily - 1st place in 15 Girls Javelin
  • Ollie - 1st place in 18-19 Boys High Jump
  • Caitie - 1st place in 18-19 Girls High Jump
  • Hamish - 1st place in 16 Boys Javelin & 3rd place in 16 Boys Discus
  • Kent - 2nd place in 15 Boys High Jump
  • Noah participated in the 100m, 200m, Shot Put & Discus Multiclass events.

It's truly impressive to note that Noah demonstrated improvement in 3 out of 4 events from Zone to State level. This accomplishment is even more remarkable considering he was one of the youngest Multiclass athletes at the event and had only recently returned to participate in sports.

A big round of applause goes to Kent, Ollie, Emily, Hamish and Caitie. They are set to proudly represent NCS at the NSWCIS level later this term.
