Late last term, Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a day full of fun and learning as Ranger Jamie's Tours brought all kinds of fun science activities to our school.
Keeping to the topic 'States of Matter', students participated in rocket making, chemical explosions, mixing magic slime and, of course, the ping pong ball eruption!!
The students had an awesome day with everyone getting involved and learning lots about science along the way. There were too many highlights to name and we are very thankful to the Ranger Jamie leaders who delivered all the wonderful activities.
This will be one of those primary school memories we won't forget!
Last Wednesday, a small group of students attended an Innovation Workshop run by Zig Zag Hub. This organisations supports and trains young people to develop business ideas, develop a plan and pitch their ideas.
These students were challenged to identify a problem and develop a solution that they could then pitch as a business idea. The facilitators were very impressed with our group. The students powered through the process and gave impressive pitches.
Three of the students have been invited to go through to the next stage of an Innovations competition which could culminate in them delivering their pitches at a Young Eyes Festival at Wollongong Town Hall in October.
How do you write a whole book in a day? By working with a team!
Teams of Primary students worked all day to plan, write and illustrate a chapter book. The books will be published and given to children sick in hospital with cancer. Every team is also fundraising for Kid's Cancer Project.
It was a busy day, full of ideas, discussions, drawing, painting, writing, editing, laughing and satisfaction.
Congratulations to all students for the way they approached this challenge.
This time it was Secondary's turn to Write a Book in a Day.
Sixty students spent 12 hours writing together in teams. Although 12 hours feels like a long time, teams need every bit of it to plan, write, edit, illustrate and format their book.
It is a challenge writing with other people and we were very impressed with the positive teamwork we saw. Pizza dinner helped!
Students have until 30 September to do their fundraising.
Congratulations to all the teams who participated.

In week 4, Secondary students celebrated National Science Week. The theme this year was 'Innovation.'
Mr Petts kicked off the week with a devotion at our Monday morning assembly, reminding us that God is the ultimate innovator, creating all things by His word, and our creativity flows from being made in His image. We can use the creative gifts that God has given us to continually experiment, learn, improve things and help others.
During the week, students enjoyed a range of extra activities, including a virtual spaceship docking challenge, won by Aidan G. On Thursday at lunchtime, a crowd gathered to experience Mr Lee's smoke ring cannon and use it to dislodge paper objects from increasing distance. There were also several Kahoot competitions throughout the week where students tested their knowledge of inventions that have changed the world, and some that were just downright wacky.
Well done to winners Will B, Jada L, Lachlan B, Nick S, Layla R, Delta B, Myles C, Michael R and Bailey N.
Thanks to our Science teachers who provide students with lots of opportunities for hands-on learning through experiments and investigations every week, allowing continued exploration of the amazing world that God has made.

So far this term, Year 10 students have been learning about Trigonometry. For one of their assignments, they were given a task called 'How Tall Is It?'. In this project, students had to make their own Trig-o-no-Meter or what may be more commonly known as a Clinometer.
After making this, the students went outside and tested their creations. Once they had measured the angle of elevation from the top of their chosen object and measured the horizontal distance, students were able to calculate the height of the object using the appropriate trigonometric ratio. To complete the calculation, students needed to add on the distance from the ground up to their eye level.
This assignment has allowed students to learn that maths isn’t all that bad, for the most part and has real world application.
It was great fun to have a chance for the high school to be a part of Book Week celebrations in a way that helped bring History to life as well. We had a rule that costumes needed to come from a historical text of some form. We had a huge range of characters throughout ancient and modern History. Historical book prizes were given to some students who received a special mention. Congratulations to all of the students who dressed up.
The last three students of the week were Taj C, Asha F and Benjamin G. These students each in their own ways have demonstrated excellent commitment to their learning, kindness and care for their friends and classmates, and enthusiastic participation in their school community in general.
