Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is an annual event that aims to promote a love of reading and all things books while supporting students’ literacy skills and celebrating Australian authors and illustrators. This year’s theme was “Read, Grow, Inspire”.

Edenhope College celebrated the week by providing Book Week activities, ran competitions, held dress up parade and held Story time at the beginning of recess and lunchtime on each day of the week. Our storytellers were Staff members and Bailey, Ivy, Adelle and Bridie from the primary leadership group and they all did a fantastic job, quite often having requests from their audience for another book to be read. The storytellers chose their favourite books or read one of the books from the CBCA Book of the Year Shortlist. Story time was well received by students throughout the week. The activities provided were related to the books from the same shortlist and included Word searches, Collaborative colouring, competitions, dot to dots, colour by numbers, making a penguin from the book Frank’s New Hat and a unicorn from book week illustrations.

Wednesday was the opportunity for primary and secondary students and staff to dress up as their favourite book character. Students went to a lot of trouble with their costumes and there were some very original characters. Parents and Lakes Hostel residents were invited to see the parade held on the turf and it was emceed by Mason from the Primary leadership group. Following the parade, prizes were given out for best dressed and were as follows.

Students also waited on the Visitors, so a big thank you to Mrs Hawkins and the year 9/10 students who did an amazing job.

Thank you to all who helped out and supported the Edenhope College Book Week.
