Love Living in a Rural Community

Groups like Edenhope Community Bank, Edenhope Lions Club, West Wimmera Shire and individual sponsors have always been very generous to Edenhope College, donating money to our end of year awards evening. We’re proud of the job that we do for our students at Edenhope College, but we couldn’t do that without the support of our local community. Also a big shout out to all our school volunteers who help daily with our breakfast club, reading, mates mentoring and volunteering in general, we really appreciate what you do, thank you!

Visit from Ron and Family

Great to see Ron Cerbasi (previous assistant principal), wife Rose, his daughter and her three children visit the school last Wednesday as they were passing through town. Ron was a huge part of the school for over 30 years, teaching many students over his time here. His caring and casual nature was a constant whenever Ron was around.

Ron and his wife Rose live in Woolgoolga on the coast, just above Coffs Harbour in NSW. Recently a call to Ron helped to fix a cut water pipe on the top oval at school. When I called Ron he thought the answer to turning off the water would be in a junction box near the new school library. I called ex school plumber Tom Heenan, who was at the school in a flash and immediately located the junction box and fixed our problem. So even though Ron lives thousands of kilometres away, he still gives us a hand at school on the odd occasion.

Thanks so much for the visit Ron and family, great to see you!

Future Funding

The visit by the VSBA architect and the three prospective architects (going back to one with interviews this week), was an exciting one. They usually rebuild schools, but were really excited at the prospect of being able to upgrade/modify our school. They felt we have a lot of scope to achieve an amazing learning environment.

There is no design in this part of the process with the architects, just picking who we feel will best represent all the ideas parents/ students/ staff presented in our AMP 1 Draft Report.

Book Week

It was great to see residents of the Elsie Bennett Centre/ Nursing Home come to our book week costume parade on the multisports oval.

After the parade Annabelle Hawkins and her cooking elective students put on a magnificent spread for all visitors. Our visitors enjoyed a slice cake or a scrumptious sausage roll with a cuppa.

Staff Expectations

Part of the 2023 AIP (Annual Implementation Plan), was an action for us all to contribute on how we all work together in a learning environment as a team. Mallee Connect started the ball rolling in our Term 1 PD. PLC (Professional Learning Communities) has continued that with how we work together in meetings, developing the team approach and finally Chad Frost led a F - 12 PLC Sprint (current), that is helping finalise the expectations we agree are needed (from each other), to strengthen our learning environment. Having expectations and relaying them in a confidential manner, with a positive lens, is the intent. It works the same way as team sport, you have your team rules, you play more as a team and generally you win more games!

Two Audits in Two Weeks

On Friday 25/8 the school had a finance audit and a week later on the 1/9 we had our OH&S audit. These audits are random, but generally happen every three to five years. It is healthy to have these audits to check the processes within school working financially and safely.
