Year Three

 Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

Grade 3 Highlights for Term 3 This term, students have:

  • Read The Iron Man and write their own Information Reports.
  • Built confidence in multiplication, division, rounding, and time.
  • Explored how the Holy Spirit guides us and celebrated Mary MacKillop’s Feast Day.
  • Learned about respect, inclusion, consent, and managing emotions.
  • Practised new signs in Auslan and shared signed stories with peers and class.
  • Celebrated Book Week, dressed in our favourite book character.

Today it was wonderful to see so many students dressed in their favourite sports team colours today! From AFL and netball to basketball and soccer, our students proudly represented the teams they love. They enjoyed sharing the sports they play and explaining why their chosen team is special to them. Thank you to all our students for bringing such amazing spirit and enthusiasm for sport!

As the Ephesus Community teachers and ESOs, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for their continued support throughout the term—whether that has been encouraging your children in their learning, attending school events and Masses, or simply being present for the special moments.

We wish you a safe and restful holiday break and hope you enjoy the warmer weather. We look forward to seeing you all in Term 4 on Monday, 6th October. Please remember that Term 4 is a SunSmart term, so don’t forget your hats!

Congratulations to the following students!

In Week 9

Religious Education

This week, students have been learning about the Sacramental life of the Church. They explored how Baptism begins our journey with God and how Reconciliation restores us when we make mistakes. We also reflected on the Holy Spirit, who guides our choices and conscience, and on the Tradition of the Church, reminding us that we are all part of one community journeying together in faith.

Integrated Learning

This week, students have been learning how to work respectfully and fairly in groups. They practised listening to others, sharing ideas, and solving small problems together. We also explored what good group work looks and sounds like—showing empathy, respect, and including everyone. Students reflected on how including all voices helps a group become stronger and more successful.

English

This week, students have been practising how to expand their sentences and create detailed paragraphs. In reading, they worked on finding the main idea, sequencing events, and thinking about why authors write. It has been great to see their confidence growing as both readers and writers.

Mathematics

This week, students learned how to name and describe 3D shapes such as cubes, prisms, pyramids, spheres, cylinders, and cones. They practised talking about faces, edges, corners, and curved surfaces, and sorted shapes into groups. Students also explored how these shapes are used in real life—like why a ball rolls or why boxes are prisms—and had fun building their own 3D models using nets and blocks.

Social and Emotional Learning / RRRR

This week, students have been learning about how to stay safe and seek help if they ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe. They identified trusted adults they can turn to for support and practised the important steps of “No, Go, Tell”—saying no, leaving the situation, and telling someone they trust. Students also discussed safe and respectful ways to ask for help, and how these strategies can protect themselves and others.

AUSLAN

This term, students have enjoyed revising their Auslan learning and building on the skills they’ve developed throughout the year. It has been wonderful to see them using signs more confidently in the classroom and applying their learning in practical ways. Their progress shows just how much they’ve grown in both communication and confidence!
