Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Damascus Families,

We have made it to the end of the Term 3! It has been a wonderful term filled with great learning opportunities. We are so proud of the determination, effort, and positive attitudes students bought to their learning. We hope you have a fantastic break and look forward to seeing you in Term 4!

This week we learned about...

Religious Education: This week, students attended and participated in a Community Mass with Foundation and Year 1 students.

Mathematics: This week, students learned about sorting three-dimensional objects based on their features, including, faces, vertices, and edges. They explored a range of objects, identifying their differences and similarities.

English: This week, students read the text Stay for Dinner, which explores themes of friendship, cultural differences, and being proud of one’s family and traditions. The story follows Reshma, who feels nervous about sharing her family’s unique meals but discovers that her friend enjoys trying new foods.

Students focused on writing sentences using subject and object pronouns. They also wrote a new scene where Reshma visits another friend for dinner, retold the story Stay for Dinner, and compared it to Amma’s Sari.

AUSLAN: This week, students practiced the signs we have learned throughout the term by playing games such as Pass the Sign, Follow the Leader, and Memory.

Integrated Studies: This week, students learned about the importance of exercise for keeping the body healthy and strong. They explored the four types of exercise, including, balance, endurance, strength, and flexibility. They discussed examples of each and practiced these exercises using interactive short videos.

Social Emotional Learning: This week, students learned about safe and unsafe secrets. They discussed how unsafe secrets involve situations where someone is hurt or something wrong is happening. Students also learned it's important to speak to a trusted adult about unsafe secrets.

Recipes

We are putting together a special Year 2 Recipe Book to celebrate our wonderful community! We warmly invite all parents to contribute by sharing a simple or traditional family recipe to be included in the book. Recipes can be printed and sent in with your child or emailed directly to the classroom teachers.
