Dear Families,

We have come to the end of a busy but productive term 3! We can already see the amazing growth our students have made especially this term and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families for their wonderful support towards educating and keeping our children safe. We hope you all have a restful break and come back ready for an even busier term 4!

Important Reminders

Thank you to all the parents who offered to help with our excursion to Myuna Farm on Thursday 31st October. We now have enough parent volunteers, and those who are needed have been contacted by email. If you have not received an email from the Jerusalem staff, you are not required to attend this time.

We really appreciate everyone’s support and willingness to help.

This week:

Literacy-During whole class Reading, we read the book 'Dear you love from your brain' a  wonderful book with child friendly illustrations about our brain. It was amazing to see how students have gathered facts about their brain development by reading this book and writing about their understanding.

Literacy-During Phonics, we looked at the e_e as in 'delete'  and 'e' as in 'me, she and we'. So far we have learnt 6 different ways of spelling the 'e' sound (ee, ea,  y,  _ _y ).

Mathematics: This week for Mathematics, we learnt about measuring objects using informal units.  An activity you can do at home is as follows.

Integrated-Health: This week we completed the end of term reflection booklet 'My Healthy self'. We can see how well students have embraced the Inquiry process of what fuels their growth.

Religious Education: During Religion we participated in our community mass which was a wonderful way of celebrating the end of term 3!

SEL: This week we reflected on what we have learned about 'Gender Bias' by completing an end of term assessment.

Next Term

Literacy-Reading - During our first week back we will read the next book in the series 'Hey Warrior' a wonderful book about managing emotions and relationships with others.

Literacy-Phonics - During the first week back we will learn the sound 'o_e' as in 'nose' and 'o' as in pony.

Integrated Health-  Next term we will focus on Respectful Relationships with self, peers, the wider community and the world. We are hoping to commence a fundraising project by collecting drink cans and containers to facilitate our Christmas Community Action Project at the end of the year.

Religious Education - Next term we will learn about the importance of Catholic Social Teaching and helping disadvantaged communities to reduce world hunger.

SEL - We will continue to work on identifying positive gender relationships.

Ways to engage with the newsletter:

  • Read or watch the weekly book with your child at home (there is often a read aloud on you tube). Talk about what the book's most important ideas are.

  • Ask your child to retell the story using their own words.

  • Talk about who the characters are, where the story is happening.

  • Use the spelling words provided to make up sentences at home or simply a 5 word mini dictation.

  • Take the idea around Mathematics and ask students to repeat an activity they did at school, with you.

Important Dates

  • Term 4 begins on Monday 6th October.
  • Term Four- Friday 31st October - Excursion to Myuna Farm

Village OSHC

Did you know we have an onsite before and after school program? They also offer school holiday programs for working families. Find out more here.
