Year Six

Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families,

What a wonderful way to finish off Term 3! We are so proud of the effort, resilience, and enthusiasm that Year 6 students have shown throughout the term. To celebrate, we ended the week with “Wear Your Favourite Sports Team/Colours Day” – Go Hawks! It was a fun and spirited way to close a term of great learning.

Congratulations to our award winners:

Religious Education Focus:

This week, students deepened their understanding of the Eucharist, Last Supper, Passover, and the Gospels. To consolidate their knowledge, they designed and played engaging games to test each other’s understanding of these important concepts.

English Focus:

Reading:

Students continued to strengthen their reading fluency and comprehension skills. They also completed an assessment where they summarised the novel Once. This assessment demonstrated their ability to identify key events and recognise the main themes of the text.

Writing:

In writing, students focused on expanding their vocabulary using words from Once. They also completed an Information Report assessment on Australia, where they researched, planned, and wrote about various aspects of our country.

Mathematics Focus:

This term in Mathematics, students learnt to identify and measure angles, including complementary and supplementary angles. They also practised finding unknown angles, applying their reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Integrated Studies Focus:

Our unit on puberty and identity helped students explore how growing up brings about changes for all people. They also learned how different cultures, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, recognise these changes in unique and respectful ways. Students completed an assessment reflecting on identity, puberty, diversity, and gender roles.

SEL Focus:

This week, students completed a post-assessment where they reflected on how their understanding of gender, stereotypes, equality, and inclusion has developed over the term.

Auslan Learning Focus:

In Auslan, students worked on Unit 7 and completed their mid-cycle assessment. They showed their ability to sign the colours of objects, animals, and pets with increasing confidence.

It has been a term filled with learning, collaboration, and growth. Our Year 6 students continue to demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and teamwork in all areas of their learning. Thank you to families for your ongoing support – it truly makes a difference. We wish everyone a safe and restful break, and we look forward to an exciting Term 4 ahead!
